John,
Tony N5RPQ here. I would be interested in taking a look at your lathe. I am
looking for a lathe that
will accept larger stock through the spindle than mine. Let me know if we can
arrange a time that I could
Come over and take a look at it.

Tony

This is a classic machine often used for production in days before Numeric
Controlled lathes. South bend 9 lathes were pretty regularly found in
the model and maintenance shops of industry.
It has a three-jaw chuck for boring a true center hole in round stock also for
the removal of material from the diameter of stock. It will handle long stock
of up to inch and a half through the headstock and will swing nine-inch stock
on the face of the chuck. The chuck jaws are reversable
It will cut threads; the lead screw is controlled by a set of interchangeable
gears allowing all standard pitch threads to be cut. I see someone has
created set of gears to cut metric threads if you must.
Included are two tool posts one quick change and a standard lantern tool holder.
I purchased the lathe about five years ago for $800 and have added accessories,
tools and a proper power revising switch which are included. I have had fun
with it but an impending move makes it too much to take with us. I would like
$800. I see the same lath on eBay for as much as $1800 plus freight.
The lathe is mounted on three thicknesses of plywood along with
the motor and outboard pully. All of this on a heavy-duty table on sliders.

[BVARC] KK5W Quad Club field Day -- if you can't make it

2024-06-20 Thread Rick Hiller via BVARC
If by chance you are unable to make it out to the BVARC/TDXS/KARS/UHRC
Field Day at Duhacsec Park this weekend, there is a way for you to add to
the Quad Club KK5W score.

* Operate Field Day under your own call as a Class B -- Portable or Class
C -- Mobile or Class D -- Home Commercial Power or Class E Home Emergency
Power station.

* Work all stations you can during the 24 hour period.

* Enter your score on the summary sheet, as you would normally but in Line
2 "Club or Group name" put *"BVARC*".

*The ARRL score calculators will generate an aggregate score for all
stations reporting as BVARC.

Doing this will allow you to be part of the BVARC/TDXS/KARS/UHRC team.

Have fun, GL and 73Rick W5RH

[BVARC] Field Day W1AW Bulletin -- Give it a shot

2024-06-20 Thread Rick Hiller via BVARC
One of the Field Day scoring bonus point items is copying and sending in a
hardcopy of W1AW Bulletin.

Although Richard, our FD chair, has folks assigned to grab this message
for the KK5W team score, it might be fun to copy it yourself and see what
ARRL has to say.

The schedule of times, modes and frequencies can be found at

 https://www.arrl.org/files/file/Field-Day/2024/4_37-2024%20W1AW%20Sked.pdf

Friday, Saturday and Sunday -- CW at 18 WPM and RTTY and PSK digital too.
Obviously English for the Phone mode.
