[BVARC] Generator for sale.
I have a Briggs & Stratton Storm Defender 5500-Watt generator with 220V connection cable for sale. The gas tank was treated with stabilizer and drained prior to being placed in storage.I'm asking $500 but will consider a reasonable offer.I also have the natural gas conversion kit for it that I never got around to installing for an additional $100.It is rather large, very heavy and will require two very strong people to lift it. [BVARC] BVARC is suffering from growing pains
As a club member for several years, I've seen our membership grow substantially. As is often the case with a growing organization, many members will present, promote and disagree with a wide variety of initiatives and policies. With that, occasional disagreements are unavoidable. That is why our BOD is charged with the club's operations. There will times when the Board may support an activity in a manner that is not to the liking of the initiator(s), but that is not to say that the initiative has no merit or benefit to the club. As adults, we need to remain respectful to our fellow club members. If we fail to do so, the club will fall into kayos and self-destruction. BVARC is a great club with great people.Let's all work together to make it the best amateur radio club possible. Re: [BVARC] QSO cards???
I have been using eqsl,cc for many years. Most logging programs will link to it and automatically send your QSL card to their exchange server. You can download your contact's QSL card and print it for display. It also allows you to design your own QSL card. The subscription is $5 per month. Exchanging QSL cards is a time-honored tradition in amateur radio and makes great wall art in the shack. 73,Dave - N5EKW On Monday, February 27, 2023 at 10:07:04 AM CST, M Reiter via BVARC wrote: Hello BVARC Hammers.newbie question, with barely my second month under my belt, I was wondering something.I have seen all sorts of logging software out there and I suppose some of it is somehow automatic and listens to something or other. my question is this, I am working on a webpage www.ki5zho.com and I have added a QSO link that if you click the log portion it allows you to enter in your info and will send you an email with my "card" since I am old, this seemed better than sending a card snail mail. but as I am exposed to soo many logger programs I wonder if this will ever be used. do people care about cards any more? is that just a long expired concept? also should I bother making postcards to send to DX contacts? the world has gone too digital, I loved the QSO cards on the wall of my summer camp ham shack. they were windows into the world, and maybe that is gone now.Marc. Re: [BVARC] Monday night net
As a BVARC board member, I am concerned that anyone should be discouraged from any of our activities. There is NOTHING is the Monday Night or daily STIR CRAZY scripts that states that "In-and-Outs" are to be excluded so don't bother to check in. As one of the net controls, I have often experienced operators who checked into the net as a "In-and Out" later come back to participate. As net control operators, we need to be mindful that we are the voice of BVARC,To those who were offended by this incident, please accept my apology that you were discouraged from checking into one of our nets.I can assure you that I will address this occurrence at the upcoming meeting of the BVARC Board of Directors. 73, Dave Ely - N5EKW On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, 2:38:00 PM CDT, Eddie Runner via BVARC wrote: Rodney, and the clubI am a long long time BVARCer, but I am not a BVARC board member, and I have never beennet control.. Many people want to check in to register their monitoring of the net. Many of them just want to listen and LEARN. I had my General Class wife all set up to check in for the first time. After she heard that, she just went into the next room. She wants to drop her membership now. I don't think some board members will really care. I know one wont. Do you seriously think he will contribute in the future after that embarrassment? On key up at 100 watts ssb I was lucky if I could get the meter past 9 watts (just talking it was around 5 and if i whistled it would hit 9) with an SWR of 1.2 and very little reflected power showing on the meter. I checked the SSB mic gain (I had it at 25 - factory is 50) and I checked the Processor setting (it as at 50 - factory setting is 50). After some searches I ended up doing a factory reset on the 857d and was able to get the transmit power on SSB @100 to at least come up to about 65 watts if I whistle and average around 40 watts normally talking. Doing some more research it seems as though the ALC on this rig is a bit wonky and seems to like to cut power. I'm still playing with it but I think it may be time to step up to something else. I’m working this weekend and this week looks rainy but I’ll try to move the tuner out there since it’s battery powered and give it a try. I like the idea behind this and with only 100 watts keeping losses down to minimum makes perfect sense. Rick as far as the balun goes unfortunately terms get interchanged - DX refers to it as a 1:1 but it’s a choke that mounts on the antenna base to keep the cable feeding the antenna from becoming another radial - at least that’s the theory behind it. I’ve run it both ways - with and without - and it was the same result. If you think adding one going up the wall would be a good idea I’m happy to build one and do that as well. I definitely don’t want rf coming in the house and so far I have not seen any issues. Also, I am running the tuner because 80 on both antennas is pretty narrow banded being coil loaded. Jimmy I spent the summer laying down about 1000 feet of radials for the vertical in as much of a 360 degree pattern as I could. It’s pretty narrow banded on 80 being coil loaded so that’s why I run the tuner, but on the rest of the bands I could probably get away without it based on my swr’s. I’ll also try and get some pictures of my setup posted on Sunday after work. - Chad On Oct 16, 2020, at 11:20 PM, Rick Hiller wrote: Hey Chad, I have read thru all of your notes and the responses. Looks like you got alot of help, so I will limit my comments. Not sure why you have a 1:1 Balun at the feed point of the 6BTV. If anything it should be an unun, but just running coax directly to the vertical is an OK move. I would however place a choke of some sort in the feedline right where it runs up the wall on the outside of your house. This will eliminate any antenna currents flowing on the LMR that runs parallel to the radials. This current could cause problems in the shack if left un-choked. As a secondary precaution, placing a choke on the feedline right where it enters the shack is another good practise, just incase some common mode current is generated on the feedline as it runs thru the attic, etc. If you have tuned your vertical with your MFJ 269 then why do you have a tuner in your shack? You should run without the tuner -- tuner in bypass mode.. Same comment on the 80 meter Inv V. If tuned to 3910, why the tuner? Unless you are running more than 100 KHz from the sweet spot. You should be doing well into the Rag Chew net with your INV V at the height you have it.. Reconfirm that your antennas are tuned to the freqs you want. Lowest SWR reading as close to the antenna feedpoint as you can.

Does you devise manager show that the sound card is working properly? If not, you might be able to reinstall the drivers for it if you still have the driver disk that originally came with the computer. If your computer is not a laptop, you can install a sound card in a available PCI slot. I am not experienced enough to work on testing a sound card that is embedded in the mother board. The other issue is that the dxpeditions are running Fox and hound mode and it requires a cat cable. I have one but can’t use with an external sound card plugged into the USB port.
