I am using the same type of antenna. The MFJ 1979. I have mine mounted on my metal fence in the backyard. I do have noise but since I got a new radio, the filter knocks it out and I am able to get good copies on everything. Check things like your power supply and cut the power off in the house and see if the noise drops at all.
