Thank you Anthony. I plugged in the name as listed in Kori's note and got no answers, thus my confusion. Perhaps I did something wrong. in As I said there are other federal "recreation areas around Texas, usually corps of engineers lakes. Can those receive POTA designations as well? That would open up a lot of possibilities for POTA enthusiasts in Texas.

Good morning JP. it's great to hear from you, maybe i can help with the question. The Brazoria property does have a park number. The number is K-0545. You can find all sorts of parks on  pota.app. I will exclude the like for you to check out. You may need to put the DXCC and state.

Kori, I'm not clear on the upcoming use of the Brazoria property for Parks on the Air.  Does this facility have a park number K-  If not, then how does that work for POTA hunters and activators? Obviously, I am not deeply engaged in the dos and don'ts of POTA, so I would like some clarity on this. I know of several Corps of Engineers lakes around the state that don't have POTA designations. Can I activate any of them because they are federal and open to the public for recreational purposes?  ...just askin', please straighten me out...

Hello everyone,

It is finally November! This is an important month for the club and for our nation. We celebrate a bountiful harvest with our family and friends, and... WE VOTE. Of course with our coming general meeting the club will gather for a chili supper prepared by the wonderful BVARC food team, AND we hold our elections for board positions that are up this year. Please come out to vote at the meeting (Thursday November 9th at 7pm), or if you cannot make it in person you can provide a proxy vote following the instructions from our election committee Rick Hiller's email (excerpt at the bottom of this email). Voting CANNOT be done via zoom, but the meeting will be streamed and you will be able to find the link on our website. A quorum of at least 34 members in attendance is needed so come in-person if you can. Otherwise, we have a usual jam packed month with lots of opportunities to hangout and get on the radio (and if you get tired of the family drama on Thanksgiving, you can always put your call out on the 146.94MHz repeater and have fun then too! LOL).  A quick reminder for folks: I have created a calendar for those who use a Google (or Apple) calendar app. The link is here and when you click on it you should be prompted to add the BVARC Calendar to your calendar app. All events for the next 30 days should be on that calendar as well as others as we confirm their dates.

Don't forget to check out our website BVARC.org for updates, and for information on our weekly in-person events, nets, and other resources. The November Newsletter IS on the website (link here), so please be sure to read through it and find out more about the candidates running in our election. Don't forget about our social media as well! We have a Facebook Page, a Discord Server, and YouTube channel for the club.

I took around 200 photos during field day. I will work on posting some to this
thread tomorrow. I’m out of town right now but did make a compressed folder of
all my photos. I’m also going to give them to Mike (club president) on a flash
drive soon.

Re: [BVARC] Antenna Experiance

2022-10-25 Thread Michael Hooper KI5MWJ via BVARC
I use my Super Antenna with the tripod mount. It sits about 7 feet high. I dont
have the 80m kit for it but that would make it a bit taller. There is a stake
mount available but I didn’t buy it because I use it in Rocky Mountain terrain.
I have made contacts in Canada and South American with it when using at home in
Texas.

Definitely DX commander. Its not as portable as the Super Antenna. Super
antenna does not perform near as well. I have both. I upgraded the radials for
the Super Antenna and now it better but still lagging. Haven’t tried the SA for
2 meters yet.

I use the crimp on types from other manufactures with great success. I do have
