For those who cannot make the trip to Dayton (or have wondered what it’s like
there), you can get a bit of the experience Saturday by way of mobile video
rovers who will be live broadcasting through W5KUB.com (and W5KUB on YouTube).

Tom (W5KUB) has attended Dayton every year for the last 43 years and has
livestreamed on the internet for over 20 years. This year he isn’t going to
make the 500-mile trip up (age 76) but has scheduled many volunteers who will
be sending live video back to his command center in Memphis TN to stream out.

Also, as usual, he will continue to randomly draw for prizes in his live
chatroom during Saturday, via HamBot, his application that manages all the
aspects of his prize awardings.

For more detailed information and a list of the prizes can be found here:

Re: [BVARC] local radio shop recommendations

2024-04-09 Thread Steve Clark via BVARC
I agree with Mike. I’ve had to send a radio back to Yaesu for repair due to my
error. They were reasonable and fair to me. I have an FT-991 and if something
were to happen to it, I would send it back to Yaesu for repair. They aren’t in
the business of screwing over the folks who buy their radios.

I would send it to Yaesu. They have the right parts, know how to work on the
equipment and have a warranty.

Why not ask: Why people didn’t buy tickets for the banquet? Ham radio is not a
cheap hobby, and I’m unsure if $25-$35 makes a difference.

none of your 4 survey questions will help the banquet.

1) restaurant or catered..

IMO this is irrelevant, we have had good and bad restaurants and good
and bad caterers..

2) What type of food would we like?

IMO this is not worded to get a reasonable response..Chineese? Hot
dogs? Steak? Niko Nikos??

IMO the date gathered from this question really wont help us.

3) What day of the week? Com on no one will ever agree on this ... WHY ASK???

4) What price range?

This is a better question, but it should be worded something like

As a BVARC member what price per person do you think is appropriate for
a nice dinner and a nice meeting place?

(this will get a variety of prices), so the club can choose .. With the
way you worded it I would be inclined

to just choose the lowest number... This rewording is more like how
much would you pay MAX...

then it would be easier for BVARC to choose a better value for the
member since the banquet is (traditionally)

partially subsidized by the club for club members... Means club member
is getting a good deal...

As is $35 a person, geez I can eat all the catfish I can stuff in for
less than $15 at many places..

Unless we are doing something very elegant, the prices this year and last year
are WAY TOO MUCH..

its supposed to be partially subsidized by the club for club members And
$50 for non members?? A guy can get in and out of some of the fanciest
restaurants .. you can get a pretty good rib eye for $50...

not catfish and dry chicken..

Subject: [BVARC] BVARC Awards Banquet - Update

I want to let everyone know that even though it was a great effort, we did not
meet the minimum for the caterer for the BVARC Awards Banquet. So at this time
the banquet on the 18th is cancelled. For those members that paid via PayPal,
their money will be refunded. Those that paid by check, the check will be
mailed back to you. If you have not received your refund by the end of January,
please send me an e-mail at n5...@att.net

It is unfortunate about the cancellation but the banquet is not going away.
Over the next few days a survey will be e-mailed to all members to see just
what everyone would like to do for an awards banquet. The survey will only a
few questions:

1. Would you like to have the banquet at a restaurant or have it catered?

2. What type of food would you like to have?

3. What day of the week would you like the banquet held?

4. What kind of price range would be acceptable for you for the banquet - $15
to $20, $20 to $25, $25 to $30 or $30 to $35?

Hopefully we can get enough responses in over the next few weeks so a new
banquet can be held sometime in the last half of March.

When you get the survey, please consider your answers carefully and
constructively. Club members input is what keeps the club going.

computer that is in very nice condition that I would be happy to give to
someone who could use it. I wiped it clean and reloaded the Catalina OS, so
it is ready to go. The only thing that doesn't work is the headphone jack.

First dibs gets it, but you will need to pick it up in the next few days.
Let me know.
