[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 2058859] Re: cairo-dock plug-ins fail to build in noble

2024-04-08 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hi Vladimir,

This bug has been fixed on Debian side (unstable).

A "simple" sync with Debian can then be done now (if you are still OK to
fix it :) )

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Vladimir,

Thank you for the bug report.

It looks like it is the same issue as the one reported on the Debian bug
tracker [1]

@kondor-dani shared patches on this Debian bug tracker [1], but he
didn't get any replies from the Debian maintainers so far.

Hi Danielle,

Thank you for the bug report.

These repositories are no longer updated simply because the latest
version is in the official Ubuntu repositories.

To fix this issue, simply remove these repositories from your repo list,

Hi Brian, Jonathan,

It seems that packages from Debian (the ones in Bionic) are not
compatible with Ubuntu ones (in Artful and before) :-/

Any idea what's the best solution? I think the ones in Debian had some
issues that were affecting user experience at some points. Maybe the
quickest is a revert to the Ubuntu packages with minor changes?

Best regards,
Matt

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1500529] Re: Cairo-Dock damages/repaints all of the dock windows if just one pixel in an applet changes

2015-10-11 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello,

Yes, it's true that these repaints could be optimised but repaints have
already been minimised and having this feature could introduce new bugs,
a more complex code (harder to maintain) and most of the time, the dock
has to be resized (when adding/removing icons, moving the mouse inside
the dock, producing effects over more than one icon, etc.) and all the
window has to be repainted. Note that it shouldn't take too much
resources, specially when using hardware acceleration.

But if you (or someone else) have an idea to improve the situation
without introducing side effects, feel free to propose it here :-)

This is why I think this bug is related to other changes on GTK code. Or maybe
linked to Archlinux because I think we are only able to reproduce it on
ArchLinux.

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1461083] Re: Expo does not work with Compiz

2015-10-11 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Again sorry for the delay!

Can you just try to launch Cairo-Dock with a delay? Maybe Compiz takes a
very long time to start its D-Bus plugin.

If you're using Cairo-Dock, Unity or Gnome session and you want to
launch Cairo-Dock with a delay of 10 seconds, you can start "gnome-
session-properties" app, then modify your Cairo-Dock's launcher and use
this command:

$ sh -c "sleep 10 && cairo-dock"

> - Windows key to open a menu where I can start to type to start

whisker-menu does this job fine already.)

I think it's not possible to reserve only one key as a shortkey without
removing all shortkeys using this key. The only way to do that is to directly
communicate with the WM as Unity does.
If it's fine for you to use two keys, you can enable Cairo-Dock's "Applications
Menu" plugin and use this shortkey: +F2 (note that you can modify it from
its config panel ; you can also try to manually set '' as shortkey but
I'm not sure it will work).

> - Start or switch to the app at n-th position via Winkey+n

It's already possible with the "Remote Control" applet: try this
shortkey: 'Return' + [1-9]

> I know there is an extension to user Winkey+Return and then the
number, but since I have to work with windows from time to time, I would
like to keep it similar.

You can modify all shortkeys but it's possible that you need to use at
least 2 keys.

If you just want to enable the switcher plugin, simply do a right click on the

plugin. If you want to get it inside the dock, do a right click on it: Desklet

Bug description:
  Hi all!

I'm a packager for Mageia Linux and ran into a problem packaging the
new 3.4.1 release due to it being just a GitHub tag, which:

  1 . Uses the basename v3.4.1.tar.gz.

  2. Expands into cairo-dock-core-3.4.1.

  3. May not contain the generated autoconf files.

Please create and mint a new normal release tarball.

Furthermore, I should note that https://launchpad.net/cairo-dock-core

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1407880] Re: Ugly, non-removable shadow around menus and dialog boxe

2015-08-07 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Thank you for these tests and explanations!

This bug should be now fixed: https://github.com/Cairo-Dock/cairo-dock-

Title:
Ugly, non-removable shadow around menus and dialog boxe

Status in Cairo-Dock Core:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
On Cairo-dock 3.4.0 under Ubuntu Vivid, I've noticed ugly shadows
around the true window borders of the menu and most dialog boxes. The
"calender and tasks" popup from the clock and the 3ed party calender
applet do not have this problem, their bubbles look truly separate
from the dock the way menus and dialogs do in gnome-shell or in
Cinnamon. The rest have an ugly dark shadow at the edge of the window
creating the impression of ugly, poorly done pseudo-transparency.

This shadow appears in Compiz, in Marco (compositing enabled), and in
Metacity(compositing enabled). Disabling window decoration outright
in Compiz removes similar shadows from all windows except the cairo-
dock popups. I cannot remove this by any configuration option in
cairo-dock, nor in any window manager it seems.

Shutting down compiz and running with NO window manager may have
revealed the reason the calender is different: when rendered with no
window manager and no compositing, all the other popup dialogs are
rendered in black boxes just as the dock is without compositing. The
calender, however, renders in a window that at first is black, then
appears truly transparent (probably good pseudotransparency) and
reveals the calender looking much as it does in a compositing window
  manager.

I am running cairo-dock rendered over a MATE panel for the menu and
tray applets. The goal is a look and feel much like Cinnamon with the
better performance of MATE. CPU use is much less and all animation
much smoother, but those ugly shadows need to go.

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1464517] Re: cairo-dock-data is missing a dependency on gnome-settings-daemon

Yeah, this is cleaner to do that. I'll try to do that ASAP.

> People who want to use Cairo-Dock with
> GNOME would ask for this package only, and everything else they need would
> follow. Ditto for cairo-dock-kde-integration, cairo-dock-xfce4-integration,
> etc. as appropriate.

That would be the best solution except that it will work only for the
power users or the ones who read the messages/suggestions. We think that
most users will use the Software Center (or apt-get without reading the
suggestions or using/knowing '--no-install-recommends' option) and they
will just install 'cairo-dock' package. This meta-package also installs
the core and all plugins including GNOME/KDE/XFCE-integration ones.

These GNOME/KDE/XFCE-integration plugins don't have any dependences to
other packages. It's not necessary because they will be enabled only if
you're using GNOME, KDE or XFCE. You don't need to install XFCE stuff if
you'll not use them.

That's really what we want with the session: we offer a Cairo-Dock
session but it needs some GNOME tools. We would like that new users
(using GNOME/Unity) are able to test it without installing extras stuff
because if they have to install any extra packages, only a few people
will do that. But we also don't want to add hundred of MB of packages
for those who are not using GNOME and Unity.

Then, recommending the new 'cairo-dock-session' package as well as
KDE/XFCE/LXDE/MATE/Cinnamon/e17/RazorQT sessions to not force installing this
package with all GNOME stuff is for me the best compromise that we can do. If a
XFCE user wants to install test Cairo-Dock session, it will have to install
this new package. Of course, this new 'cairo-dock-session' package will have
two dependences: gnome-session-bin and unity-settings-daemon (for Ubuntu 15.10).
What do you think about that?

'gnome-settings-daemon'
gnome-session[17624]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead.
Sorry

Installing gnome-settings-daemon is sufficient to cure this symptom.
That makes me think that cairo-dock-data (which provides cairo-
dock.session) ought to have an explicit Depends: gnome-settings-daemon
(or possibly a Recommends:, but definitely nothing less than that).

I see that cairo-dock-core has a Recommends: gnome-session | , but that's so likely to be satisfied by one of the other
choices to be almost useless. A survey of my trusty desktops indicates
that systems upgraded from precise have gnome-session installed but
fresh trusty installs only have gnome-session-bin. gnome-session
depends on gnome-settings-daemon but gnome-session-bin does not.

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1386200] Re: middle click on dock task bar icon open app twice

2015-08-06 Thread Matthieu Baerts
The output of gtk-click indicates that there is no double-click.

If you still have this bug, it's hard for us to debug because the code
is almost the same for the right and left click. Maybe it can be
interesting to report this bug to GTK devs...

> I've been looking at the existing documentation, but I sorely miss a
picture of how all classes hang together.

Maybe there are some tools to draw UML graph, maybe Eclipse can do that?

Feel free to have a look to the wiki or http://doc.glx-dock.org ;-)

It seems not all users have these bugs. This part of the code has not been
modified recently and the middle click is managed just like the right and left
clicks. I don't know why you have this bug only with the middle click. I'm
suspecting a bug with GTK... And the middle click is not really used in many
other applications.
Are you also using ArchLinux?

> It seems, that sometimes cairo-dock receives messages and forgets to
pass them on to other listeners.

Seems strange. The dock should not block other listeners. You could
maybe have conflicts with other taskbar but not sure that you will see
them. Do you have concrete examples of these bugs?

> I tried your gtk-click. When I double-click I get the message box. But
not when I single-click, middle-click or right-click.

Can you launch it from the terminal? After a right/left/middle/...
click, you should see 4 lines like that:

Hello World
Click: button 2, type 4, state 16, time 12871105, event 0, x 22,429199, y
15,421783
Hello World
Click: button 2, type 7, state 528, time 12871205, event 0, x 22,429199, y
15,421783

The dock is using the same signals as this gtk-click program. Button 2 =
middle click ; type 4 = pressed ; type 7 = released.

Yes, it's true but on the other hand, a KDE user doesn't need and doesn't want
all GNOME specific packages just to have the dock.
We also guess that a user which has installed both GNOME and XFCE sessions will
be more able to fix the problem than a KUbuntu user which just wants to install
the dock without installing a new DE. And we guess that there are more users
with only one DE which wants to upgrade their system. It's a dilemma, we didn't
found a solution to satisfy both solutions and we prefer to be "Desktop
Environment-agnostic" :-)

> How about moving /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/cairo-dock.session

Yes, it's maybe more clear but it will not fix the problem. This package
cannot be marked as required by other Cairo-Dock packages.

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1464517] Re: cairo-dock-data is missing a dependency on gnome-settings-daemon

2015-08-06 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello Sergio and sorry for the delay!

Yes, you are right! The problem is that we cannot simply add
gnome/unity-settings-daemon as required component because it will force
installing almost all GNOME/Unity packages on other sessions (e.g. it can be
annoying for KUbuntu users).
But it can be interesting to only install it on GNOME/Unity sessions, e.g.:

unity-settings-daemon | e17 | kde-workspace | openbox | lxsession |
xfce4-session | mate-session-manager | razorqt-session | cinnamon-
session

(or gnome-settings-daemon for Trusty)
What do you think about that?

Yes, it seems we missed that :-/

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1471413] Re: dock menu allows multiple, overlapping instances

2015-08-06 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello and sorry for the delay,

Yes, the dock allows using multiple instances because maybe you want to
have multiple docks with different settings. But for that, you have to
force the dock loading the configuration from another directory by using
the '-d' option.

Maybe the dock should check if it's not already launched with the same
settings. But it can lead to other problem: what if the dock wrongly
detect that it's already launched?

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1461083] Re: Expo does not work with Compiz

Hello and sorry for this huge delay,

Can you check if the D-Bus plugin of Compiz is enabled? The dock needs
it to be able to "discuss" with Compiz. Simply launch the CCSM

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1386200] Re: middle click on dock task bar icon open app twice

2015-08-06 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello and sorry for the huge delay!

Do you still have this bug? It seems the dock received 2 signals (= 2
clicks). I'm not able to reproduce this bug on Ubuntu but I had this bug
on ArchLinux.

Is it maybe possible to check if you have this bug with other apps which are
also using GTK3?
Or by compiling this C code attached to this message?
You can easily test it by using this command:

   $ gcc `pkg-config --cflags gtk+-3.0` -o gtk_click gtk_click.c `pkg-
config --libs gtk+-3.0` && ./gtk_click

Thanks!

Title:
Ugly, non-removable shadow around menus and dialog boxe

Status in Cairo-Dock Core:
  Incomplete

2015-05-11 Thread Matthieu Baerts

You should see a box on the bottom of the dialogue shown when launching
this command:

$ cairo-dock -A

Or you can also modify config files with this command:

$ sed -e '/default backend/c\default backend=cairo' ~/.config/cairo-
dock/.cairo-dock

(then relaunch the dock)

Thank you for these details!

Is it maybe possible to report this problem to XFCE devs?
It can be interesting to add a whitelist (add shadows only for XFCE-Panel) or
blacklist (do not add shadows for Cairo-Dock).

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1430289] Re: theme problem, check my screenshot

2015-05-09 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello and sorry for the delay!

It seems your Window Manager (e.g. xfwm4) or your composite manager
(e.g. Compton, xcompmgr, etc.) add some shadows around Cairo-Dock's
windows. They shouldn't add any shadows around windows of type "Dock"
(_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_DOCK).

Can you have a look to your Window Manager or Composite Manager'
settings and check if it's possible to disable this feature for windows
of type DOCK? If not, please report this bug to the devs of your Window
Manager or Composite Manager. By default, they should add shadows for
this windows' type.

Hello,

Do you still have this bug if the dock is not launched at startup and/or
if you relaunch stack applet?

If you click on this icon with '?', does it open the file?

Can you check if the URI seems correct in the launcher linked to your
file in ~/.config/cairo-dock/stack/ directory?

What's the URI of your file located in your NAS?

In fact, the dock will get details from GVFS. Maybe it should retry

If you select this session, I guess your window manager is Compiz.

It seems this bug is due to a regression of your video driver... Which
one are you using? Proprietary one? (fglrx)

  $ glxinfo | grep OpenGL

> Is there someway I can default to cairo-dock -c at log on?

Yes, simply launch the dock with this command, check the box to remember
your choice and select "No". Next time, the dock will be launched
without OpenGL backend ;-)

New launcher is not inserted correctly when there is(are) existing
launcher(s) for the same app with different name, command parameters
  and icon.

  1. On the desktop create a launcher:

 NAME: Anki-SOPHIA
 COMMAND:anki "~/Anki/Users/SOPHIA"
 ICON IMAGE: ~/.local/share/icons/anki-sophia.jpg

Drag and drop onto CD subDock "LEARNING".
 Everything is correct.

  2. Do it all again

 NAME: Anki-JOHN
 COMMAND:anki "~/Anki/Users/JOHN"
 ICON IMAGE: ~/.local/share/icons/anki-john.jpg

Drag and drop on C-D main Dock or subDock "LEARNING".

You get a duplicate of #1.

Same if you d&d the generic icon (launcher) for the app from
  desktop or sys menu.

You CAN edit the incorrect launcher in C-D and correct it.

You CAN create a correct new launcher directly with C-D "ADD" but
it defaults to the last custom icon defined rather than the app's
  generic icon.

 Not tested with other apps.

  TIA

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1431554] Re: Zoom doesn't work

2015-03-27 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello and sorry for the delay,

copyright issues.

Yes, it's the reason. Thanks to Apple ;-)

> Who wants this effect can install cairo-dock-freeworld from rpmfusion
repo instead, otherwise the only solution is to live with it.

Yes. Maybe we should add a message... Hard to know what we can do in
this patents (troll?) world :-)

Hello,

You can try with other compositor manager. Simply install and launch

https://answers.launchpad.net/cairo-dock-core/+question/261081

Status: Open => Answered

Matthieu Baerts proposed the following answer:
Hello and thank you for this question,

This is strange. It is maybe invisible due to a problem with your video
drivers.

According to the log, it's possible that the dock is already launched
because it is not able to bind many shortkey.

Is it possible to launch this command before launching the dock :

killall cairo-dock

Then, if you still have the same errors, can you try without the OpenGL
backend?

cairo-dock -c

Or:

cairo-dock -Wc

Title:
Ugly, non-removable shadow around menus and dialog boxe

Status in Cairo-Dock : Core:
  New

Mmh, I see. It's maybe because your WM draws this window 1px on the
other desktop. Can you check the position of these maximised windows by
using this command:

$ xwininfo

@fabounet: or maybe the dock should not be hidden if only 1px is
visible?

@Steve: how did you install Cairo-Dock? By using our repository? If no, do you
also have this bug with it? =>
http://www.glx-dock.org/ww_page.php?p=From%20the%20repository&lang=en#5-Debian
As workaround, you can select the option to hide the dock when a window is
above the dock :)

Garbage written to main configuration file when overwriting theme file

Status in Cairo-Dock : Core:
  Incomplete

Bug description:

  Cairo-Dock version : 3.4.0
  Compiled date : Oct 17 2014 09:05:35
  Built with GTK : 3.14
  Running with OpenGL: 1

This bug has been discovered when using KDE 4.14.2.

I am seeing an issue where overwriting an existing theme is causing
garbage to be written to the main dock configuration file. This
appears to occur with all types of themes. It looks like some form of
  memory corruption.

  == STEPS TO REPRODUCE ==

  1. Modify the existing theme and save the theme to a new name e.g. foo
  2. Change the theme again by adding or removing a component and save the
theme by the same name i.e. foo

Any attempt to apply this theme will cause the dock to disappear owing
  to a corruption of cairo-dock.conf.

The corruption differs each time (sometimes extra characters are
dumped at the end of the file) but causes the key file to become
invalid. For example, when using the default theme, the overwrite
causes the following corruption in cairo-dock.conf:

  #P+ Text font:
  font=Normal
  e

As you can see an character has been written to the file.

But what did you try to do exactly?

Can you also check if compiz-plugins is installed by launching this
command from a terminal?

$ sudo apt-get install compiz-plugins -y

Yes, you can do that from the General Option / Desktop size.
Note that you can also use the Unity Tweak Tool.

PS: and don't forget to enable Compiz's DBus plugin to allow more
interactions between Compiz and the dock!

It *should* be installed but it's not easy to "force" its installation.
We recommend it only if XFCE, LXDE, KDE, etc. is not installed:

Package: cairo-dock-core
(...)
Recommends: cairo-dock,
cairo-dock-plug-ins,
compiz-plugins | e17 | kde-window-manager | openbox | xfwm4 |
mutter | marco | muffin,
gnome-session | e17 | kde-workspace | openbox | lxsession-logout |
xfce4-session | mate-desktop | cinnamon-session

> Our script should still be able to activate a switcher plugin in
Compiz (to have alt+tab and workspaces), no ?

Yes, it should but this is why I changed the status of this bug report
to incomplete :-)

  Compiled date : Oct 17 2014 09:05:35

  Running with OpenGL: 1

Running cairo-dock with -l debug -e gnome I tested the following applets:
  * Bin Applet
  * Shortcuts Applet
  * Quick Browser Applet
  * Stack Applet
  * Folders Applet

  Here are the issues found:

  1. Quick Browser Applet opens folder as well as selected file
Although opening directories works as expected when opening a file from the
Quick Browser applet it opens the file but also opens the directory where the
file is located. This is in contrast to using the KDE Integration where only
the file is opened (e.g. click on text file and it is handled by text editor).

  2. Folders Applet does not resize panel on removal of folders
  1. Add /home/$USER to folders applet through configuration panel.
  2. Click on Folders Applet and list of folders will be displayed
  3. Edit configuration of Folders Applet and remove folders path (i.e. path
blanked out)
  4. Click on Folders Applet and blank panel is displayed (with the size of the
previous folders added).

This is more of an aesthetic bug.

Hello and thank you for this bug report!

Is it possible to get a few more details?
Do you have this bug with the Cairo-Dock session? Which Window Manager are you
using? Compiz? If yes, did you (install and) enable Compiz's DBus plugin?
Which version of the dock are you using? Do you have this bug with the latest

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1382796] Re: Shortcuts applet causing continous restarts of Dock

2014-10-22 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello,

This bug should now be fixed thanks to this commit: https://github.com
/Cairo-Dock/cairo-dock-plug-
ins/commit/d26cf94a2475a081b6a6c6ad678e5f4825a9246a

But it can be interesting to use GVFS as most as possible and to remove
some specific hacks created for KDE (if KDE has now a better support of
GVFS).

Is it maybe possible to list on a new bug report all problems that you
have when using the dock without the KDE integration plugin:

$ cairo-dock -e gnome

With this option, the dock should use GVFS without "hacks". GVFS is used to get
informations about files and default applications: list files in the Trash,
open your default files manager to see the content of the trash, list all disks
which are mounted and unmounted, list files in a directory, etc.
In other words, do you have some problem with Shortcuts, Dustbin, Folder and
Quick-Browsers applets when using this option? :-)

Hi,

I think you need to change your theme to "Default-Panel". You can do
that from the theme manager (right click on the dock / Cairo-Dock /
Settings / Themes)

Note that the latest stable version of Cairo-Dock (3.4.0) should propose
you to use this theme ;-)

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1383487] Re: Cairo-dock Plug-ins incorrect dependencies on Debian Jessie

2014-10-21 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello and thank you for this bug report!

I confirm this bug, I just didn't test on Debian Jessie and I don't know why it
still uses libetpan15.
I'll try to fix it ASAP!

As workaround, I think you can use the unstable repo.

[Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1382796] Re: Shortcuts applet causing continous restarts of Dock

2014-10-19 Thread Matthieu Baerts
I see that you're using kde-integration plugin.
Do you have this bug if you force the use of the gnome-integration plugin?

$ cairo-dock -e gnome

Is it possible to have a (full) backtrace of this crash? :-)

Do you mean a symbolic link? Because I'm not able to reproduce this
crash.

Note that this .gtk-bookmarks file should no longer be used. A
'bookmarks' file should now be available in this dir: ~/.config/gtk-3.0/

2014-10-18 Thread Matthieu Baerts
It seems your second backtrace is not for the same crash as the previous one.
What did you do to have this crash? Is it linked to this bug?

Thank you for your .gtk-bookmarks. How did you edit it? By dropping a
directory into the Shortcut's subdock?

Title:
Shortcuts applet causing continous restarts of Dock

Status in Cairo-Dock: Plug-ins:
  Incomplete

Bug description:

  Cairo-Dock version : 3.4.0
  Compiled date : Oct 17 2014 09:05:35
  Built with GTK : 3.14
  Running with OpenGL: 1

This is an ssue with the Shortcuts applet (bzr plugins).

  STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
  1. Load Cairo dock with default Panel
  2. Delete one of the folders / files referenced by the Shortcuts plugin.
  3. Restart cairo-dock

It will seg fault and continue trying to restart. Seems impossible to
change the theme and get the dock working again. Attempting to run the
current theme will revert to default dock and so will not fix the
  problem.

  Issue occurs in applet-bookmarks.c -> cd_shortcuts_list_bookmarks
(specifically it is reading .gtk-bookmarks and falling over when it
cannot find the file referenced by the bookmarks).

Emptying .gtk-bookmarks is a workaround to resolve the issue.

Hello and thank you for this bug report!

Is it maybe possible to get a "full backtrace" of this crash? ==> 'backtrace

No problem, it's maybe better to track it on Launchpad due to the
importance of the crash!

This crash seems a bit tricky...

You're right, it's maybe better to reduce the scope of these variable because
they are unused outer the 'if' but I think it should change nothing because GCC
should optimise that correctly.
But yes, if we don't declare these variables at the beginning of the function,
we should declare them at the right place :-)

Nice catch :-)
But iNewPositionX and iNewPositionY should be different if the dock is
horizontal or vertical. I guess if the dock is vertical, we should add
iScreenOffsetX to iWindowPositionY and the opposite (but we should check that
carefully)

Hello,

Simply do a right click on your dock/launcher / Cairo-Dock / Settings.
You should find an option to move want you want where you want ;-)

Title:
  Cairo-Dock 3.3.99-rc1: crash at startup

Status in Cairo-Dock : Core:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  Hey guys!

Welp, today I had a bunch of upgrades for my computer, so I went ahead
and upgraded them. Since it was a while since the last reboot and
there was a ton of X-sever updates I decided to go ahead and just
  reboot my computer.

Cario-dock never ran again, however my startup apps did, so I used one
to open a terminal and run cairo dock from the terminal.

Not sure what happened really, any suggestion would be greatly
  appreciated.
