For those of you that missed Laura Thomson's presentation at CakeFest,
or left wanting to know more, we are pleased to announce that on
Wednesday October 22, 2008 6:00 UTC-4 she will be joining us on The
Show (http://live.cakephp.org). Laura has been working at Mozilla for
over a year now, and has been leveraging the CakePHP framework in many
high-visibility Mozilla projects, such as the Firefox Add-Ons portal,
and their new single sign-on initiative. Laura is a prolific speaker
and writer, as well as an active member of the Open Source community.
She has co-written the top selling PHP/MySQL book in the world, "PHP &
MySQL Web Development" (Sams, 4th Edition). Mozilla has the largest
known installation of the CakePHP in the world.

Come join us to find out what Laura is all about, and to see what
insight she can offer from facing such scaling challenges as Firefox
Download Day.

We are taking questions in advance via Google Moderator.

2008-01-04 Thread Jeff Loiselle aka phishy

Dry your eyes (we know you've been crying), The Show is back!

While I've been busy living it up in the US Virgin Islands trying to
figure out how to get a decent Internet connection, The CakePHP Team
has been busting their butts throughout the year (and even the
holidays) to help you make your web applications faster to develop.
That's right, it's all for you. They want to see you make more money.
It's an economy thing.

Want to hear all about the new stuff? No problem! We've got a show for
you!

Tune in tomorrow at 12:00PM UTC-4!

Visit #cakephp-live on Freenode to ask questions.

Lack of documentation? I don't think so!
(John doesn't have all those sleepless night for nothing)

CakePHP Live Broadcast: Be There Or Be Square

2007-09-18 Thread Jeff Loiselle aka phishy

Hello Fellow Bakers!

We have just released a new live podcast for CakePHP called "The
Show."

The Show is a weekly live internet radio broadcast where we discuss
CakePHP-related topics and answer questions live via IRC, Skype, and
telephone.

The Show was conceived after core developer Nate Abele and I recorded
a podcast for php|architect with our good friend Paul Reinheimer. We
had so much fun doing the podcast, that we decided to keep it going
for the CakePHP community. The Show was born.

http://live.cakephp.org
Tune in September 18, 2007 at 12:00 PM EST for the next broadcast

Welcome To The Show!

Regards,
Jeff Loiselle aka phishy

Re: override dbo

2007-08-30 Thread Jeff Loiselle aka phishy

Adwin,

I wrote the Oracle DBO. The version in the latest 1.2 nightly works
and is supported. As Chris Hartjes said, if you have any problems with
that version, submit a ticket to Trac. I would love to get more Oracle
people on board. Please let us know if you have any further problems.

Regards,
jeff

Re: #sql_3e3a_0 for COUNT() queries

2007-02-02 Thread Jeff Loiselle aka phishy

It does not happen to me and I'm on:

Mac OSX 10.4.8
PHP 5.1.4
mysql Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.20, for apple-darwin8.7.1 (i686) using
EditLine wrapper from DarwinPorts..

"SELECT COUNT(*) AS count"

works fine

Re: Cake is breaking database views. This looks like a bug.

2007-01-29 Thread Jeff Loiselle aka phishy

The information has to come from somewhere. Each database driver acts
a little differently. But in the end, Cake derives the model.field
values from the query result. The only way it can name them a
different way (other than from its source table) is aliases.

If you're unwilling to provide the aliases for each of your view's
columns and name, you will have no mapping. The only other thing you
could really do, is manually provide the column name and info for each
model. But that really beats up the convention over configuration
mantra.

Re: Cake is breaking database views. This looks like a bug.

2007-01-29 Thread Jeff Loiselle aka phishy

Bernard,

Views work in my Oracle driver. Not sure about the other drivers. I
don't see why they shouldn't work, they act just like tables. Be
warned that you have to be explicitly clear in aliasing your complex
queries, or Cake will not know what to do.

SELECT User.first_name, User.last_name FROM users User

If you're using SQL functions, don't forget to alias those as well...
The aliases are the foundation to RDBMS -> ORM mapping in this
implementation..

Re: Cake is breaking database views. This looks like a bug.

2007-01-29 Thread Jeff Loiselle aka phishy

Christophe,

You have to follow convention if you want Cake to play with you

Try this:

CREATE VIEW users_profile_view AS
SELECT
  User.id as UserProfileView.id,
  User.username as UserProfileView.username,
  DATE( User.last_login ) as "UserProfileView.last_login",
  User.city as "UserProfileView.city",

etc.

If that doesn't work let me know. Usually if you alias everything it
should work perfectly. If not, you can use the raw dbo methods for
query and retrieval.

Peace.

Looking for Oracle testers

2007-01-28 Thread Jeff Loiselle aka phishy

Oracle Developers:

The newest revision of the Oracle driver has just been committed to:
https://svn.cakephp.org/repo/branches/1.2.x.x/

Please test it and submit your bug reports to Trac. We would like to
have this driver absolutely solid for the 1.2 release.
