Re: CakePhp related domain

2011-11-12 Thread Sandy

Hi phpMagpie,

The $200 is not for the domain registration, but because I have paid
the hosting in advance, which is valid until 2013 and can be kept by
anyone interested in the domain. I cannot get a refund for this so I
at least would like to get this part back.

The auction is because I got into GoDaddy Auctions for free as a
bundle with another purchase. I'm not interested in more.

 Just wanted to know if it was you trying to make a profit from a
 CakePHP related domain, or if you were informing us of someone else

 programmer to use it and not  some domain squatter, which is why I'm
 including it here.

 As Mike says, if you are truly doing this to benefit the CakePHP
 community, transferring it to the foundation or someone who will do
 good with the domain (which you state is your desired outcome) without
 trying to make a profit (no matter how small) would make more sense.
  Not doing this makes your statement about domain squatters seem more
 of a threat to encourage a community member to buy the domain rather
 than a genuine concern.
 As for recouping your registration fees, the domain was first
 registered in 2007 and has been dropped once and moved registrar a few
 times so I would guess you're not the first owner.  So, at tops I
 would say you've paid 4 years registrations, I would find a different
 registrar if paying $50 a year for .com domains, but why should
 someone else pay for the fact you have not found the time to develop
 the site in those 4 years, that's not their fault?
 I have to admit, you've touched a sore subject for me here as I really
 dislike the practice of buying domains, do nothing with then then
 trying to sell at a profit.  You've added ZERO value to the domain
 (the only value of this domain is the CakePHP trademarked name).  This
 put's you on a very similar level as a ticket tout in my eyes and by
 stating in your OP that you're considering auction, this shows you
 would really like more than $200.

Hi Sam,

Its hosted on Hostdime and not Godaddy.

Actually, this having become more of a big deal than I thought, I
might just keep it and place ads if nothing better comes up.

Thanks for the idea.

Yes, this domain is mine. I am a CakePHP developer and wanted to blog
about my experience, but I have not been able to find time to do so.

I re-researched and feel fair, nominative use is valid in this case.

Nominative fair use is established when:
 - The product cannot be readily identified without using the
trademark;
 - Only so much of the trademark is used as is necessary for the
identification; and
 - No sponsorship or endorsement of the trademark owner is suggested
by the use.

Re: CakePhp related domain

2011-11-10 Thread Sandy Wilkins

I investigated beforehand and this is fair use of a trademark. I'm not
trying to impersonate or cause confusion among CakePHP users by making
a CakePHP tutorial site... the word CakePHP is used nominatively.

If this were true, then many sites that contain trademarked names
would have to be closed, for example:

photoshoptutorials.ws/
www.photoshopstar.com/
www.officetutorials.com/
excelhelp.org/
www.excelforum.com/

and tons more.

Not sure if this will work, but remember to add this to your

 You need to either:

 You should remember that in 2.0 auth automatically hashes the pass on
 login but not on save. Check the docs.

Re: Cannot log in using CakePHP 2.0

2011-11-07 Thread Sandy Wilkins

Man, Cake is hard! I understood what you just said, and did the
following:

1. I set the salt setting to nothing (blank):
  Configure::write('Security.salt', '');

2. I'm going to set the password to 'a', so in my login view I added
the following:

echo Hashed password is  .
AuthComponent::password('a');

This gave me the following string, which I manually entered into the
database in the password field:
86f7e437faa5a7fce15d1ddcb9eaeaea377667b8 (so I found out Cake uses
SHA1 as default! Yeah learned something!)

3. I tried to login again, using the email as username I entered
before (a) and the password (a)... but no luck. Same error as
before.

Later, I added the following to my AppController which was suggested
in StackOverflow:

var $components = array('Session',
'Auth'= array(
'authenticate' = array(
'Form' = array(
'fields' = array('username' =
'email')
)
)
)
);

...and still no luck.

If this helps at all, this is my SQL export:

--
-- Table structure for table `users`
--

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `users` (
  `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
  `email` varchar(400) NOT NULL,
  `password` varchar(150) NOT NULL,
  `first_name` varchar(150) NOT NULL,
  `last_name` varchar(150) NOT NULL,
  `hotel_id` int(11) NOT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY (`id`),
  UNIQUE KEY `email` (`email`)
) ENGINE=InnoDB  DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=4 ;

--
-- Dumping data for table `users`

INSERT INTO `users` (`id`, `email`, `password`, `first_name`,
`last_name`, `hotel_id`) VALUES
(3, 'a', '86f7e437faa5a7fce15d1ddcb9eaeaea377667b8', '', '', 0);

Thanks again for all the help!

 If you have save the password it WILL NOT be hashed automatically, no

 that's the deal.

 In contrast when you use the login method the entered password is

 stored as plain text so they won't match).

 The fastest route is to copy-paste the hashed password value appearing
 in the debug output in your database. That will let you test this and
 then you need to implement the hash before save code in the docs.

 PS. Capital is for emphasis not for SHOUTING!

   You try to login with the same password as that of the database? Nope!
   You need to either:
   Hash the password and store it in the database then try to login

   Copy the already hashed password from the sql debug and insert it as
   is in the database.

   You should remember that in 2.0 auth automatically hashes the pass on
   login but not on save. Check the docs.

Re: Cannot log in using CakePHP 2.0

2011-11-07 Thread Sandy Wilkins

Ok, got it to work! I guess its a combination of all these
suggestions, but it finally did login when I commented the following:

$this-Auth-userModel = 'Users';
// $this-Auth-fields = array('username' = 'email', 'password' =
'password');  -- commented out
$this-Auth-loginAction = array('controller' = 'users', 'action' =
'login');
$this-Auth-loginRedirect = array('controller' = 'hotels', 'action'
= 'dashboard');
$this-Auth-logoutRedirect = array('controller' = 'users', 'action'
= 'login');

I added this to my code, as I explained before:

var $components = array('Session',
'Auth'= array(
'authenticate' = array(
'Form' = array(
'fields' = array('username' =
'email')
)
)
)
);

Thanks John and Andras for your help! Really appreciated!

An in-the-middle way would be to obfuscate your code... remove
comments, unneeded spaces, change variable names, etc. One could still
see the code but it would take alot of time.

 But as I said in my earlier post, could you not place in the remotely

   If it is a plugin that we're talking about then the license tends to
   get you a period of support and access to upgrades, so to let your

   Have you ever, or no of anyone else, who has bought code where you had

Cannot log in using CakePHP 2.0

2011-11-06 Thread Sandy Wilkins
I'm trying to get a simple login form to work using CakePHP 2.0...
just Auth, no ACLs for now.

I'm able to see the form and enter the email and password as they are
in the database, but I just get returned to the form and the flash
error message is displayed. Here is my code:

**AppController:**
class AppController extends Controller
{
function beforeFilter()
{
$this-Auth-userModel = 'Users';
$this-Auth-fields = array('username' = 'email',
'password' = 'password'); //have to put both, even if we're just
changing one
$this-Auth-loginAction = array('controller' = 'users',
'action' = 'login');
$this-Auth-loginRedirect = array('controller' =
'hotels', 'action' = 'dashboard');
$this-Auth-logoutRedirect = array('controller' =
'users', 'action' = 'login');
}
}

**login.ctp:**
?php
echo $this-Form-create(); //'User', array('action' =
'login'));
echo $this-Form-input('email');
echo $this-Form-input('password');
echo $this-Form-end('Login');
?

**UsersController:**
?php

class UsersController extends AppController
{
var $name = 'Users';
var $helpers = array('Html','Form');
var $components = array('Auth','Session');

function beforeFilter()
{
$this-Auth-allow(logout);
parent::beforeFilter();
}

function index() { } //Redirects to login()

function login()
{
if ($this-Auth-login())
{
$this-redirect($this-Auth-redirect());
} else
{
$this-Session-setFlash(__('Invalid username or
password, try again'));
}
}

function logout()
{
$this-redirect($this-Auth-logout());
}
}
?

I appreciate any help with this. Thanks!
