Re: CakePhp.org suggestion for small improvement
Existing users of Cake all know what Jonathan means, but the home page is one of the main ways to attract newcomers. It is important that those people should think that the docs exist and are in good shape, otherwise they might go elsewhere. Re: CakePhp.org suggestion for small improvement
Are you the same guy that request CakeBaker´s inclusion in homepage? Lol, you need to close CakePHP homepage! :) Good thought this one. Re: CakePhp.org suggestion for small improvement
I am finding this topic pretty funny! In fact, this quote has become so famous that I don't know if removing it from the cakephp.org site would remove it from people's mind and people will stop referencing this quote ;) On Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 10:29 AM, Steve <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Maybe it's just me.. but I knew exactly what Jonathon was referring to > when I read that quote. > > Mainly, when Cake spits out things like this: > > Error: FoosController could not be found. > Error: Create the class FoosController below in file: itmasons_network > \controllers\foos_controller.php > > > > On Jun 17, 11:17 pm, villas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > From the official Cake website: > > > > What people say... > > Who needs documentation when it tells me how to do everything? > > — Jonathan Snook > > > > Apart from the questionable accuracy of this statement , it makes > > it sound as if Cake doesn't have any proper documentation. Re: CakePhp.org suggestion for small improvement
Maybe it's just me.. but I knew exactly what Jonathon was referring to when I read that quote. Mainly, when Cake spits out things like this: Error: FoosController could not be found. Error: Create the class FoosController below in file: itmasons_network \controllers\foos_controller.php On Jun 17, 11:17 pm, villas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > From the official Cake website: > > What people say... > Who needs documentation when it tells me how to do everything? > — Jonathan Snook > > Apart from the questionable accuracy of this statement , it makes > it sound as if Cake doesn't have any proper documentation. Re: CakePhp.org suggestion for small improvement
Yes, I knew what you meant but I was just thinking it sounded negative to newcomers about the possibility of finding good documentation. Many seem to perceive Cake as poorly documented, but the reality is now somewhat different. I think the best idea is to simply replace it with another quote. Here is an example suggestion, but please don't think I'm trying to put words into your head :-) "The documentation is excellent, but the program gave me so much feedback, I got up and running without it!" JS Best wishes. So the fact that him uses the framework helped me to make my choice. Also I got the same impression when I read the statement at the first time. At that time the documentation was really weak. Of course, it's very diferent now. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CakePHP" group. Of course, it's best taken in context. :) It was referring to the fact that just dropping the application into a folder stepped me through building the initial files for my own application. That's something that hasn't changed, so in that respects, the quote is just as relevant. But I understand the point your making and of course, I'm okay with it being on or off the home page (of course, I like getting linked. ;) ). -Jonathan Snook --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CakePHP" group. CakePhp.org suggestion for small improvement
From the official Cake website: What people say... Who needs documentation when it tells me how to do everything? — Jonathan Snook Apart from the questionable accuracy of this statement , it makes it sound as if Cake doesn't have any proper documentation. Now that the excellent Book exists, maybe the webmaster and Jonathan could think of a better quote? --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CakePHP" group.
