Re: You favorite IDE/ Dev Setup?

2011-04-06 Thread Chris
Its mearly to show to everyone, primarily me the question asker, what
it is other developers use to develop for CakePHP. Hell Maybe I'll
make a blog post with this data if I have enough, but realistically I
probably will not. It's just to act as a source of inspiration for
myself to see what I should use and what others mainly use.

For instance I've begun using NetBeans now since so many people use
NetBeans. I've since found out it's very powerful for CakePHP
development. I've also noticed that most cake devs like using some
flavor of linux, vim, and scripts(shell). It's not to gather other
pointless information and frankly I don't understand why we should
MAKE this thing die. Once the ideas are gone or whatever it will die
on it's own. It's not an illogical thread, just once that doesn't
share lots of code. Like how Samuel said "the point of this is that if
someone new to cake or someone changing IDE could read what people is
using," and that hit the nail on the head.

NetBeans is awesome but it lacks some Cake Magic!

@Krissy Masters I think the point of this is that if someone new to

By the way I use 2 screens one with 1600x1200 and the other with
1440x900 I live in Chile so my time zone is -4 GMT

RE: You favorite IDE/ Dev Setup?

2011-04-05 Thread Krissy Masters
Is this going to go on forever?

nGinX Apache, mySql, Post Cake, 5 foot 8, speak English, right handed, shoe
size 8..

Whats you favorite screen resolution next?
What time zone are most Cake developers in?

Is there a point to all this? Someone keeping track and going to release a
mind blowing stats report? Was there a real question or debate or help
needed for the individual who first asked or is this just an ongoing ever
ending question with no real purpose only to fill everyones inbox on a
daily basis?

Time to kill this thread perhaps?

My 2 cents anyways.

NetBeans is new to me and I'm liking it a lot. Much more organized
than Geany and thats good for me since I'm still sort of new to this
stuff.

@the_plumpNation I'm not entirely convinced either. For some reason my
copy of VIM in Ubuntu 10.10 doesn't accept plugins >_>

Almost identical but I still use netbeans when I'm working with
spaghetti that someone hands over. I've also recently switched half my
javascript debugging to chrome developer tools, after I upgraded to
firefox 4 too quickly.

My colleagues are trying to get me 100% vim, but I'm not yet
convinced.

I recommend 'Coda' to all Mac OS X users out there! Awesome editor and
Coda 2.0 (which is still in development) will make it all even
greater!

All you need is MAMP (Mac Os X, Apache, Mysql, PHP) and you are all
set!

As a browser Firefox 4 with the plugin "Firebug" .

For collaboration I suggest using GIT.

Happy baking!

I ride a RoadStar Motorcycle.

When it comes to which ide/tools you use its about as relevant as what
kind of car do you drive to work.
The biggest factor is personal preference, and experience with the
tools. Second I don't just develop php, I also work with css html
javascript, java, os scripting weather it be bat files for the windows
or shell script and python on linux.
I use various editors. But mostly eclipse.

Re: You favorite IDE/ Dev Setup?

2011-04-01 Thread Michael Carriere
We've got subversion setup on our staging server, and a cron script that runs
every minute.

Currently, the cron script does two things, a subversion update, and a "cake
migrations all", which keeps everything up to date for the people who need to
be testing and using the staging server.

When the product is ready to ship, we will manually sync the live server to the
revisions, as versions are tagged and released.

@Chris:
For larger projects (with multiple files and classes) I use NetBeans,
because finding the declarations of classes and functions is as simple as a
Ctrl + Click.
For small projects and quick edits I use Geany. (Yes, it's so fast.)
