as i mentioned above, php mails via mail() are working both cake and pure php based using my "good old" phpmailer from the days before cake i get a similar error with $mail->SMTPAuth = true; and $mail->IsSMTP(); like this: SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Invalid argument (22) SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. (bool)FALSE if i dont use $mail->IsSMTP(); the email gets successfully sent (via mail() - which of course works) it might actually be something connected to the smtp server...
