My legal counsel has advised me not to comment on the grounds that it
may expose me as someone thinking up a project so they could learn a
framework.

I've seen it along this far (it got accepted into the core for ZF
provided I get everything done) so I might as well finish it. *Then*
I can work on the really fun jQuery helper.

I'm one of the people who talked about doing a helper for jQuery for
CakePHP. But now that Nate talked about a plugin structure for that,
I'll wait until that sees the light of day before working on it.

Besides, I'm busy doing work on my Audioscrobbler / Last.fm component
for Zend Framework.

Re: jQuery users

2006-10-03 Thread nate

We're adding a new helper to Cake which will handle JavaScript
generation. By default, it will generate Prototype-style JS, but as
the first fully-extensible helper, other helpers will be able to
completely overwrite it's functionality.

This is going to allow us to ship future versions of Cake with full
support for generating jQuery instead of Prototype just by changing
your configuration. This will also allow others to develop extensions
for this helper to generate JavaScript for other libraries, like Dojo
and Yahoo! UI.

sounds very interesting - any chance of putting a demo up (or maybe
adding something to the bakery?)

it's the anti-jQuery. big and bloated, IMO. To continue the automobile
analogy, if jQuery is a VW Rabbit, Dojo is a Hummer.

Yeah Jquery is good. Powerful and really easy to use. To use it in cake
, the head helper is perfect.

Re: jQuery users

2006-10-03 Thread Fallo

I am also using jquery with Cake. The beauty is you can eliminate all
that inline javascript generate by the Protoype AJAX Helper. I am
experimenting with a Parsing routine(BTW used in ThickBox) in which you
can pass the action in the controller in a QueryString. I saw someone
implementing this idea using Symphony and jQuery. I also understand
there is no need for a helper...

Re: jQuery users

jQuery + CakePHP = friggin' awsome.

I haven't had any issues with the RequestHandler component.
(Specifically, I'm using Thickbox 2.0.1 and jQuery 1.0.1 in my CakePHP
1.1.7 application). Just a little bit of
"$this->RequestHandler->setAjax($this);" magic in my controller, and I
can call up a page with a full layout in the browser, or just the
conroller output inside of a thickbox.

If you haven't already, check out the jQuery mailing list:
(http://www.nabble.com/JQuery-f15494.html or
http://jquery.com/discuss/). There's a lot going on right now in terms
of plugin development.

I brought up the jQuery Helper idea over at Felix Geisendörfer's blog
"ThinkingPHP", and it wasn't exactly met with enthusiasm. But the more
I think about it, the less I think one is needed, unless you haven't
got a firm grasp of JS.
