echo $this->Html->image('logo.png', $options=array());
I wouldn't hard code in paths to images; there's no point when you have the
Html helper.

I have tried to display logo in plain html img src, within php (with

Hello There,
you can use html image tag for this, and if you want to do this with cakephp
syntax,
then you will have to include HTML helper in the controller class. like
var $helpers = array('Html');
and then in your layout.ctp file you can put following code.
$html->image('logo.png', array('width' => 500, 'height' => 300));
