Re: [Callers] Moving past self-flagellation

2017-11-06 Thread Kelsey Hartman via Callers
Seth Tapfer said something in a callers' workshop once that has become my
"go to" for this sort of issue. Everyone makes mistakes, it's how the
caller reacts/responds (do it with a sense of humor and NEVER blame the
dancers) that makes all the difference in the world.

I just came off a dance weekend where one of the callers repeatedly made
mistakes, which were made because there wasn't enough care or thought
involved and was very arrogant with not wanting to adapt to changing
language (using something other than the "g" word as asked) and I, as a
dancer, am still angry and upset. I know that I will never go to a weekend
or evening dance when that caller is listed again. If that caller had
approached it all very differently, I would have been on their side in
spite of the mistakes.

[Callers] I think this might work....

2017-04-10 Thread Kelsey Hartman via Callers
Hi! Had an idea and wanted to share it with y'all!

Venturing Vortices
Improper by Kelsey Hartman 3.18.2017
{Started out as a dance written for the Ides of March (called Berkeley
dance 3.15.2017) called "Take a Stab at It,"

(Sharon Gavin suggested the title)

but the B1's timing didn't quite work. Loved the flow of the A1 and A2 so
re-wrote the ending and renamed it.}
A1: (16) Balance the ring and jersey twirl to swing neighbor
A2: (16) Gents start 1/2 hey and ladies ricochet back to partner SWING
B1: (16) (eFace away from partner) pass Shadow #1 by left, Shadow #2 by
right, LEFT shoulder round Shadow #3, RETURN pass #2 by right, #1 by left
B2: (8) Circle Left with partner and current neighbors 3/4, CA twirl and
(8) Circle Right 1x around (move it!)

Would love comments...thanks, Dan Veino for sharing the jersey twirl...

Re: [Callers] Wizard's Way?

2016-10-23 Thread Kelsey Hartman via Callers
WOW! Thank you so much and Frannie, too, for giving me Cis's Witch's Way. I
hope I get to meet Dean some day, Cis calls a lot of his dances and they
always make me a happy dancer!
