Here's one that I "wrote", not sure if it's original or not, but it has the
mirror A and B parts:

Is this a New Dance? DI
A1LLFB
Circle L .75, to face P up and down
A2DSD P, Sw P
or B & S Partner,
(My choice depends on whether there are many new dancers for whom a
16-count balance and swing might be too much)
B1LLFB
Circle RIGHT .75, to face N up and down
B2DSD N, Sw N or B & S N

Re: [Callers] Dance ID and corrections anyone?

2009-06-13 Thread Dave Colestock
In typing this out, I saw I typed it wrong:

The dance I was suggesting was:

A1   (8) Pass through across to an ocean wave, balance the wave (ladies have
lh, RH with partner)
     (8) Walk forward to new person and gypsy once around (or dosido, but I like
the gypsy here much better)

A2  (8) Return to partner and taking RH w/partner in a wave, balance the wave
(g in center)
     (8) Gents Allemande Left 1/2, balance the wave

B1   (4) Walk forward to new Neighbor
     (12) Neighbor swing

B2  (4) Give & Take (go forward, women bring partner back to their side of the
set)
 (12) Swing Partner on Women¹s side

But the B2 is wrong and needs to be changed.  Should be like this:

B2  (4) Give & Take (go forward, gents bring partner back to their side of the
set)
 (12) Swing Partner on Gent's side

Sorry - was in a hurry when I transcribed it.  This is, however, a different
dance that the one Bob is attributing to Leslie.  A variant, perhaps?

Hi Will,

I am not familiar with the dance, but there are errors in the transcription
that I think I can shed some light on.  The dance as I have it diagrammed
should read like this:

A1   (8) Pass through across to an ocean wave, balance the wave (ladies have
lh, rh with partner)
     (8) Walk forward to shadow and gypsy once around (or dosido, but I like the
gypsy here much better)

A2   (8) Return to partner and taking RH w/partner in a wave, balance the wave
     (8) Gents Allemande Left 1/2, balance the wave

B1   (4) Walk forward to new Neighbor
     (12) Neighbor swing

B2  (4) Give & Take (go forward, women bring partner back to their side of the
set)
 (12) Swing Partner on Women¹s side

The diagramming of the choreography of the dance you described did not fit, but
this fits the flow, and progresses.  Unfortunately, I do not have the title or
author of the dance.  Perhaps someone else on the list will recognize it?

All I can say is - walk it through, or dance it. You'll find that in
the B2 the lady must draw the gent back to her side of the set for the
swing. I have called it several times, including a No-Circle Becket
session at NEFFA. The Fabulous Couple is a useful dance for callers who
like to assemble a varied program of dances, without too many shared
elements repeated from dance to dance, since it is constructed without
any circles, chains, or gents allemandes. Most importantly, it's a very
enjoyable dance. ... Bob

I was going through some notes jotted down during various dances and I came
across a dance with no name that was attributed to Chris Ricciotti. I
thought it was from a night that Lisa Greenleaf was calling but I've checked
with both Chris and Lisa and neither one recognizes it.

It was an interesting dance, but when I try to work it out based on my
notes, it¹s clear that something is not correct, specifically the A2, plus
the end of B2 is a very short swing if you actually go Forward, can do a

corrections, name and author?

Thanks,

Yes, those were approximately what I had come up with. I do distinctly
remember the "long lines" instruction, but then I was taking notes during
the walkthrough and it was probably taught starting with "Long Lines"
followed by a modification to teach the Give and Take.

I don't have a name for this dance but I think these changes will get it to
work. (Not guaranteed, though.) You probably just made some transcription
errors.
