Re: [Callers] Spring Cleaning

My taste in dances evolves. Recently I cleaned out many dances, especially
glossary-type dances, that end with a ladies chain to face a new neighbor
because I find it awkward, especially for new dancers, for the gent to escort
the lady around and then turn to face his new neighbor and be there on time. I
also have whittled down my glossary dances to a few intuitive ones that flow
well since many of them are very similar.

Hello All,

I am mostly retired now, but I still keep my usual three collections handy. I
have a portfolio of cards that are set for any dance I might call. It has a
variety if dance types and difficulty levels. A second portfolio is for dances
that are on “vacation”, but might proved useful. I have a third portfolio of
dances that are being revised or are only for special programs.

I agree. My Dance Organiser program has a "Neglected" option in the Dances
menu, and the Help screen for this says:

This sets a filter to show all Dances which have been called more than 10 times
but not called in the last 18 months. You could set up this filter yourself,
but you might find this command a quick reminder -- it's easy to forget about
dances that you used to call frequently, and maybe it's about time you brought
them back into your current repertoire.

(I could make the values 10 and 18 user-specifiable if you wanted to change my
settings.)

I would say that rather than removing a dance from your collection
you should resolve to call it at the next opportunity. I go through my
dances from time to time and identify ones that I enjoyed in the past,
but haven't done for a while and then use it the next time I have a chance.

[Callers] Spring Cleaning

2019-09-24 Thread Maia McCormick via Callers
How often do folks on here clean out (or not) their dance collections? I
went through mine this evening and found some that I never call and keep
meaning to, but it never happens -- even though some I recall really
enjoying when I danced them. When and how do you decide to take a dance out
of your collection?
