[Cameramakers] Aerial - Pacific Optical again

2003-03-31 Thread John Stafford

Just went through the archives and from 2000 I see that Gene Johnson
wrestled with the giant Pacific Optical 3" F4.5 lens.

Gene, did you ever make the camera? I'm building my second with this lens.
Did a shooting prototype with the original shutter (modified to manual) and
am now working on version two with conventional Ilex shutter in a steel
frame.

I've learned a lot and would be happy to share information.

[Cameramakers] Deja all over again

Like this (again?) (http://wind.winona.edu/~stafford/s) Going through
the Big Bin I found one just like it that I mocked up with a rise and
falling front mount. Next Winter I think I'll build it for real.

The traditional 47mm SA seems to have build problems - inconsistency.
Mine is the F5.6 and it's not as contasty as I'd like, but I'm comparing
it to a couple of phenonemal lenses. How we spoil ourselves. :)

I'm working on a very new WA camera right now. All glass and stainless.
At this time I'm in dire need of a machinist. Bummer.

Re: [Cameramakers] 4x5 Plans

2003-03-31 Thread Gerald Newland

Dear Camera Makers,

Does anyone have plans for rosewood and brass 4 x 5 camera in the style of
those made by Louis Gandolfi and sons (UK)? In the absence of plans, a set
of detailed images would be of great interest.

A few years ago, I made a metal 4 x 5 " camera, with helical focusing mount
and fitted with a Schneider 47mm Super Angulon which almost covers the 4 x 5
format. It has been one of the most useful cameras I have ever had for
technical and pictorial photography.

Regards

Gerald Newlands

[Cameramakers] View Camera Magazine

2003-03-31 Thread Beau Schwarz
I have heard that 'View Camera' currently has an article on Nikon large
format lens. I have a couple of them and a couple of Apo Nikkors for future
projects.

I drove the 90 miles to the nearest Barnes&Noble only to find they no longer
stock the magazine. Is there any way to purchase a single copy on line?
Would anyone like to sell me their copy, or email me a copy of the article?

Thanks,
Beau schwarz
