[Carbon-dev] [ANN] WSO2 Gadget Server 1.4.2 Released !

2011-10-31 Thread Ranga Siriwardena
 WSO2 Gadget Server 1.4.2 Released!

The WSO2 Gadget Server team is pleased to announce the release of version
1.4.2 of the WSO2 Gadget Server

The WSO2 Gadget Server is an enterprise grade portal, which is available
under the Apache Software License
v2.0.
With the WSO2 Gadget Server, you can offer your execs, employees, partners,
or customers a way to get all the information in one place that they need.
Each user's dashboard is individualized, allowing him/her to add,
customize, and rearrange gadgets, as well as group them into tab sets. The
open "Web" model means users can select gadgets not only from your
enterprise, but also from Google and many others.

Google Gadget development is an easy, standards-based process - any Web
developer with basic skills in HTML, Javascript, and XML can develop and
deploy a custom gadget. These gadgets can be hosted at any URL, or stored
and advertised within the Gadget Server's Gadget Repository. Accessing
enterprise Web services through a gadget is easy, reliable, and secure. And
the WSO2 platform provides many options for connecting with diverse data
sources-from the WSO2 Data Services Server connecting to data bases and
spreadsheets to the WSO2 Mashup Server connecting and collating data from
multiple sources (which might include external cloud services and even Web
pages).

You can download this distribution from http://wso2.org/downloads/gadget-server
and give it a try.
How to Run

   1. Extract the downloaded zip
   2. Go to the bin directory in the extracted folder
   3. Run the wso2server.sh or wso2server.bat as appropriate
   4. Point your browser to the URL https://localhost:8443/carbon
   5. Use "admin", "admin" as the username and password to login as an
admin and create a user account
   6. Assign the required permissions to the user through a role
   7. If you need to start the OSGi console with the server use the
property -DosgiConsole when starting the server. The INSTALL.txt file found
on the installation directory will give you a comprehensive set of options
and properties that can be passed into the startup script

Key Features of WSO2 Gadget Server

   - *Enterprise class Portal interface* - Users get to organise gadgets in
a familiar portal interface. Sets of gadgets can be organised using tabs.
Individual gadgets can be moved between tabs as well as cloning an entire
tab to be used as the foundation for a new tab.
   - *Client Side Gadgets* - Any gadget adhering to the Google Gadget
Specification can be added to the portal. These gadgets are basically HTML
and Javascript embedded in XML. They can be hosted in any publicly
accessible Web Server. The URL of the gadget XML is used to add them to the
   Portal.
   - *Enterprise Gadget Repository* - Organisations can maintain a central
repository of gadgets. Portal users can browse and add gadgets from this
repository to their individual portals, while rating and commenting on
   individual gadgets.
   - *Anonymous Mode* - Users can experience most of the Portal's
functionality 'excluding' the gadget Repository even before registration
and sign in. All data in this mode will be stored in the user's browser.

In fact even now the broker architecture is neat but having to support
multiple protocol versions has made it little sloppy. On a side note I
suggest you involve personally in 1.0 design/review work to get it right.

Apparently Robbie has done certain changes to the broker which claim to
have fixed some serious OOM issues. Specially [1] looks appealing. Can

Well, that is a workaround.

But, the modify option has the provision to upload a new file. When I
upload a new file for an existing gadget, it does not pick up the new file
content. That is a bug. Either the content should be picked from the new
file, or the upload option should not be there.

This is really bad in terms of development experience.

Does Carbon Studio allow me to re-deploy auto when I change?

And for my simple gadget I am happy with vim, I do not want to use

Re: [Carbon-dev] Qpid Java broker recent changes

2011-10-31 Thread Paul Fremantle
Danushka

My main thought right now is that we need to move to 1.0 support for the
standard. I think one of the issues with Qpid - and I may be wrong - is
that the changing set of specs has meant too many updates to the core. I'd
love to see some stability around 1.0 and maybe even a plan to deprecate
and remove old spec versions. What do you think?

Re-packed packs are yet to replace and I'm in the process of doing it.

Re: [Carbon-dev] Qpid Java broker recent changes

2011-10-31 Thread Danushka Menikkumbura
Hi Paul,

Yes that I've heard.

My concern was OOM issues. The ones we identified and submitted patches for
were mainly at the transport/session layer and had nothing to do with the
underlying data store. Also as I understand the Cassandra store is for
broker scaling (?).

Robbie has done lots of changes to the broker code in recent past
invalidating bulk of the patches that we submitted. My gut feeling is that
the broker is better of in terms of memory usage with these changes. I can
give it a try too at least with the standalone broker.

Thanks,
Danushka

Re: [Carbon-dev] How to use Apache DS with WSO2 AS to authenticate using kerberos?

2011-10-31 Thread Prabath Siriwardena
I double checked Kerberos - scenario 16 - having AD as KDC with ESB
4.0 - and it works fine - added a comment to the related JIRA with
pointers..

AmilaM is testing with ApacheDS..

-This feature [Multiple gadgets adding at a time] is not yet fixed. We have
created the jira https://wso2.org/jira/browse/CARBON-11424 to track this

-When a user upload a new gadget source,it's treated as a new gadget and
from this way it'll not affect existing gadgets. If a user want to modify an
exiting gadget he/she can modify the gadget source from 'Modify Gadget
Source' option as mentioned in my previous comment.

-In gadget repo view as I earlier mentioned there's an option 'Modify
Gadget Source',under 'Modify Gadget' option. From 'Modify Gadget Source'
link, users can view the source of existing gadgets in the gadget repo.

I just copied some gadget code from a page - I want to try using
this source. Now I got to save and upload that as a file :(

Why not have an option to just paste the XML into a box? I can edit
 and tune it later.

DSS pack has been re-packed and hosted by removing RSS feature related
things from component.xml of org.wso2.carbon.adminconsole.ui-3.2.2.jar. So
this has been fixed now.

This will be fixed in next patch release. If we are fixing this we need to

AFAIK, Dynamic height just adjusts according to the length of the content.
You need to call adjustHeight() usually after a content change.

You need to set scrolling through the UI elements that you use.

Re: [Carbon-dev] [GS] Add gadget does not support adding Gadget using source

2011-10-31 Thread Lalaji Sureshika
Hi,

Yes,In current implementation of GS,the "Add new gadget" option does not
have an option "XML source" to paste the XML into a box.Currently this
option supports uploading gadget as a gadget url, file path and registry
path.

But when a user want to modify the gadget, under the option 'Modify Gadget'
he/she can edit the gadget source by going through 'Gadget Repository > Add
/ Modify Gadget-> Modify Gadget Source'.Hence the user don't need to upload
the changed gadget as a file again. This feature was included from GS 1.4.0
release.

Add gadgets does not seem to be really working. Only one gadget can be
added at a time.

I thought we discussed last time too that we got to fix that. We got to
allow multiple gadgets be added in one go, like the Jira does on add gadget

Specially, trying to modify gadget using a new file not working is a

[Carbon-dev] L1 - DSS 2.6.2 (standalone) needs to be repacked due to broken & not applicable RSS features

2011-10-31 Thread Nirodha Pramod
Hi,

In wso2dataservices-2.6.2 (released on 31st October) there are not
applicable(in standalone product) RSS features included. Those pages are
broken in the UI.
Plus users cannot create carbon data sources, hence cannot generate data
services. Therefore 2.6.2 pack needs to be repacked with the above issues
fixed. Please find the related JIRAs below.

Please don't add the stratos-xxx.xxx packs in the given builder
locations. We are not hosting them in OT as per the conversation with
Sanjeewa. And please add the KEYS.txt file in all locations (In each
 products).

 Thanks.
