Perhaps something carried forward from ESB 1.7 days? wso2-esb-service.log gets filled up when the proxy services with log mediators start receiving messages. It's for service level logging. We also have a dedicated error log named wso2-esb-errors.log. Both these were added upon customer/user requests.
