[cayugabirds-l] Cornell T.V s
Driving by Bluegrass Lane and the Cornell golf course yesterday afternoon there were seven Turkey Vultures coursing low over the golf course. The white light made the silvery flight feathers look brighter than I have ever seen before. Crows and gulls were streaming down Fall Creek. I think all these birds were returning from the compost piles. I've been seeing TVs on every visit to Stevenson Road. [cayugabirds-l] Common Redpolls
We were planning on driving out of state last night but circumstances prevented our planned departure, luckily, because we were greeted this morning with 2 Common Redpolls mixed in with the Goldfinches at our feeders this morning. I hope they show up at everyone else's feeders as well, makes a nice Christmas present. [cayugabirds-l] Possible Lewis's Woodpecker along Cayuga lake East shore
A colleague of mine told me that she saw a woodpecker, which she had never seen earlier at her house. She knows all the woodpeckers from this area. She described that it was greenish brown and had some reddish on the head. She did not get chance to see the front of the bird as it kept facing away from her. And it was seen for a short period. So we looked up the web for the pictures and she thinks it could be the LEWIS's WOODPECKER, she was fairly positive about it. This bird was seen where a few a years ago a Red headed woodpecker was seen by many of us. May be a couple of miles up the lake from Ithaca. So keep your eyes open. Unfortunately, my colleague is also leaving town soon so it may not be seen in next few days. [cayugabirds-l] King Eider from Treman
1255: From west side of inlet (followed mowed trail from Treman Marine Park) spotted King Eider directly across channel, bobbing up against the concete breakwater of the jetty. After one dive he calmly churned his way diagonally up and across the inlet, joining the periphery of a throng of about 70 Mallards actively feeding off the west side of the ice edge. When I left at about 1315, the eider was napping, bobbing with his head tucked. Also, 6 Ruddy Ducks (1 m, 5 f), 1 m Bufflehead, and 1 f Lesser Scaup, 6 C. Mergansers (3 m, 3f), 56 Gr. Black-backed Gulls, 5 Herring Gulls, 1 Ring-billed Gull. --Mark - This message was sent using Endymion MailMan. http://www.endymion.com/products/mailman/ -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html 3) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
