[cayugabirds-l] tripod in carry-on?

2013-04-11 Thread Jesse Ross
Hi all,

I'm flying to South Carolina today, and I've been trying to figure out
whether I can get away with having my tripod in my carry-on. The TSA site
is not very specific about this. If it makes a difference, I'm flying out
of JFK.

If anybody has any experiences or information they could share with me, I'd
greatly appreciate it!

Thanks very much,
Jesse Ross

[cayugabirds-l] Many Juncos!!! and other new birds!!!

2013-04-11 Thread W. Larry Hymes
We have been having many DARK-EYED JUNCOS for some time now (they love
the white millet that we spread on the ground!!). With the southerly
winds of a couple days ago, I was certain they would be moving on. My
suspicion seemed to be confirmed, as for most of the day yesterday we
had many fewer juncos. But then late in the afternoon they flocked in,
to the point that we had upwards of 75, which is more than we had been
having!! As Dave Nicosia pointed out, the positioning of the front has
caused migrants to move into our area and then fall out over us
(WHEE!!). We also had our first YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER yesterday (2
birds excitedly squawking in our pine tree out front). Also, after a
prolonged absence, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS have reappeared (one male had
stunning yellow lores). A few minutes ago I saw our first BROWN-HEADED
COWBIRDS (2 females). And just moments ago our first FOX SPARROW in
several years just appeared!!! WOW!!! It looks as though this
"stalling" weather pattern may continue for a couple more days or so.
What do you "meteorological birders" think??
