[cayugabirds-l] Northern Rough-winged Swallow at East Shore Park
Early this afternoon during a lull in both taxi business and rain I pulled in to East Shore Park. Among about 20 Tree Swallows working the area was at least one NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW. This was an exciting discovery, my first of this species this year. However eBird shows that the first record was yesterday by Anne Marie Johnson at Dryden Lake. Other birds of note early this morning from Stewart Park included the continuing TUFTED DUCK along with all other usual Aythya species a pair of HORNED GREBES in contrasting plumages a/the all-white young GLAUCOUS GULL 23 BONAPARTE'S GULLS Yesterday evening I also saw 6 RUDDY DUCKS off the east end of Stewart. This afternoon I saw one. --Dave Nutter -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Spring Waterfront Cleanup this weekend
The annual Stewart Park/Waterfront Cleanup is this Saturday from 10am to noon. The Cayuga Bird Club invites members and non-members alike to participate. We will meet at the Swan Pen at 10am and will proceed to clean that area and then Jetty Woods. It's very satisfying and more fun than it sounds. A good sighting of a Great-horned Owl is practically guaranteed! Please join us. -Paul -- Paul Anderson, VP of Engineering, GrammaTech, Inc. 531 Esty St., Ithaca, NY 14850 Tel: +1 607 273-7340 x118; http://www.grammatech.com -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Vesper and other Sparrows on Burdick Hill Rd
Tuesday evening Ken and I went over to Burdick Hill Rd with the hope of finding Eastern Meadowlarks. We ran into Bob Horn who pointed us to a section of the road where he had just photographed a Savannah Sparrow. There were many Song Sparrows flying between the shrubs and the edge of the road, but we also saw the white tail flashes of a Vesper Sparrow and then heard one singing. At one point there were Vesper, Savannah, Song and Tree sparrows all pecking in the grit next to the blacktop on the roadside-- very nice for comparisons. We didn't hear Meadowlarks at Burdick Hill Rd, but we went home via Snyder Road where we heard several Eastern Meadowlarks and saw them flying over the airport fields. -Diane -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
