[cayugabirds-l] Raven carrying material

2016-03-09 Thread Geo Kloppel
Following up on my West Danby Raven post (yesterday):

A Raven was down on the deer carcass just now, with Crows all around, raising a
ruckus. When the Raven flew up, with several Crows in close attendance, I could
see that its beak was full of something white. Deer hair for nest lining, my
guess.

songbirds, owls, hawks and water birds photographed at Salt Point and in and
around Lansing by renowned wildlife photographer Marie Read. If you can't make
the opening, the exhibit will run through the months of March and April, during
regular library hours.

P.S. I really want to go see the originals of his work up in the Rare

[cayugabirds-l] Eagle Nest Question

2016-03-09 Thread Peter

Fellow birders.
I was recently on Weyers Pt. road off Rt. 89 heading toward the lake
(Sheldrake area) and in the woods far to my left I saw what appears to
be a balk eagle nest. Can anyone verify that this nest is currently
being used?

Many thanks.

Jae, If you used the link Marc sent out, check your spam folder. I got
email notification within a minute. Also, I think they (Tugg ticket
reservation platform) are holding tickets and charging after the magic
number is reached, then they will send email notification of how to pick up
tickets. I think they will let you choose if you want to print out,
electronic, or Cinnemapolis will hold at the door for you. If that doesn't
solve it, I'd call Cinemapolis to see if they can look up and see if your
reservation went through! Glad you are going!

Jae, If you used the link Marc sent out, check your spam folder. I got email
notification within a minute. Also, I think they (Tugg ticket reservation
platform) are holding tickets and charging after the magic number is reached,
then they will send email notification of how to pick up tickets. I think they
will let you choose if you want to print out, electronic, or Cinnemapolis will
hold at the door for you. If that doesn't solve it, I'd call Cinemapolis to
see if they can look up and see if your reservation went through! Glad you are
going!

51 signed up, 9 MORE NEEDED to make this event happen!

Reserve your ticket by tomorrow, March 10, 7pm. We need at least 16 more to do
this or the film will be canceled! They take your credit card info and won't
charge unless the event is happening. I forwarded and invited friends via
Facebook.

I heard a very vocal woodcock(s) tonight on Hurd Rd. for about 15 minutes. The

[cayugabirds-l] Burns Rd. Woodcock NO, bats YES

2016-03-09 Thread Gary Kohlenberg
I don’t know how early people see bats in our area, but saw my first of
the year tonight on Burns Road, Ithaca. I didn’t see or hear any woodcock yet,
but the bats were actually more exciting. It feels like spring now.

[cayugabirds-l] Midnight Woodcock display flights, Etna

2016-03-09 Thread Lee Ann van Leer
Just before midnight I stepped outside my front door and was surprised to hear
the display flight twitter and chirps of a Woodcock and then a minute later
Peent-Peent.

So exciting and the easiest First of Year Woodcock I've ever found.

There was another woodcock in a neighboring field also doing a display flight.
This is not even a moonlit night. I was outside at 9pm and 10:30pm and they
were no sounds of WOODCOCK then.

I brought my dachshund outside to hear them because she has a bigger Year List
than I do! (She had a Glaucous Gull and some others I'm missing).

This was happening on Lower Creek Road.

They weren't the only birds awake. Also a SCREECH OWL, AMERICAN ROBIN, and a
flying flock of CANADA GEESE.
