[cayugabirds-l] Common yellowthroat, Salmon Creek
This morning, and for 3-4 days prior, I've been hearing common yellowthroats singing in the woods behind my house (Salmon Creek Valley, Lansing). In past years, they've also arrived on the early side, yet hearing one singing by (or before) April 20th seemed a little odd. But this morning, the bird was right outside my bedroom window, and very loud. I checked it against the song on eBird (first recording on the list) and it was identical--basically counter-singing to what was outside. I'm 100% sure on this one. -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Blue-headed Vireo in Etna
Thanks Jason -I wanted to remember to post about the blue-headed vireo in our backyard this morning.. Colleen Richards -- Original Message -- From: Jared Dawson To: CAYUGABIRDS-L Subject: [cayugabirds-l] Blue-headed Vireo in Trumansburg Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2019 16:45:41 -0400 Hello, around 15:40 up about a half mile on the nature trail that leads off of Salo Dr. in Trumansburg, there was a FOY BLUE-HEADED VIREO passing through the pines. There was a small mixed warbler flock as well, but I could only make out a male Myrtle Warbler before they headed on. Otherwise relatively quiet. Being new in town, I appreciate Marc Devokaitis for giving me the trail tip. [cayugabirds-l] Montezuma Main Pool Saturday Morning
Wide variety of ducks on the main pool, including Common Merganser, Ruddy, Redhead, and all the usual ones. Virginia Rails calling near La Rue's Lagoon (both sides of the road). Counted 14 Great Egrets fairly far out on the main pool. Had at least 3 Wilson Snipe at Benning Marsh. Only other shorebirds on the drive were a few Yellowlegs & couple Killdeer. Song, Swamp, & Savannah Sparrows were around (mostly Eaton Marsh). Caspian Terns, Barn & Tree Swallows flying around.
