Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)






     3/18: An early MARSH WREN was seen at VanDyne Spoor Road.

     3/19: An EURASIAN WIGEON was seen at Carncross Road.

     3/20: An EURASIAN WIGEON was seen at the Headquarter Pool on Howland 
Island. It was seen again on 3/22.

     3/21: 2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen on Howland Island.

     3/22: 2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen  at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. A CHIPPING 
SPARROW was seen on Towpath Road. 3 SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen from Carncross 
Road.

     







Onondaga county






     Overwintering CHIPPING SPARROWS continue in Manlius and in Syracuse.

     3/18: An ICELAND GULL and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were seen on Waters 
Road in Fabius.

     3/20: A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen at McBride Street in Syracuse.

     3/21: A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and a BONAPARTE’S GULL were seen at Oneida 
Shores Park in Brewerton.A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Three Rivers WMA north 
of Baldwinsville and relocated the next day.

     3/22: A possible GOLDEN EAGLE was seen on Fisher road in Syracuse. 5 
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were found on Waters Road in Fabius. An OSPREY was 
seen at Onondaga Lake Park.

     3/23: An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen and photographed at Melo Circle in Clay. 
An OSPREY was seen from the Thruway in Mattydale.

     







Derby Hill Bird Sanctuary






     1,428 Raptors were counted at Derby Hill this week. 12 GOLDEN EAGLES were 
seenOther highlights were 7 ROSS’S GEESE, a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and 2 
GLAUCOUS GULLS. on 3/20 an estimated 41,000 non rapror migrants were counted, a 
majority being ictarids and waterfowl.







Oswego County






     The Hinmanville Road LARK SPARROW has now made it 77 days including today.

     3/19: 2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen on Cty. Rt. 54 north of Phoenix.

     3/21: A continuing FIELD SPARROW and a FOX SPARROW were seen at a feeder 
in Constantia.







Madison County






     3/17: A FOX SPARROW was seen in hamilton.

     3/23: An early PECTORAL SANDPIPER was seen at Ditchbank Road north of 
Canastota.







Oneida County






     3/22: 2 Adult Male BARROW’S GOLDENEYES were seen from Lewis Point at the 
Southeast corner of Oneida Lake.

     3/23: A FOX SPARROW was at a feeder south of Forestport.







Herkimer County

     3/21: A WILSON’S SNIPE was seen near Salisbury Corners north of 
Middleville.
