Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)


 The last sighting of the ROSEATE SPOONBILL was 9/18 from the Thru-way 
Pools.
 9/14: A GLOSSY IBIS was seen along the Wildlife Drive up to 9/18.
 9/16: 13 species of Shorebirds including BLACK-BELLIED and AMERICAN GOLDEN 
PLOVER, STILT SANDPIPER, WHITE-RUMBED SANDPIPER and both DOWITCHERS were seen 
in Knox-Marsellus Pool. A PHILIDELPHIA VIREO was seen on Towpath Road.
 9/17: 2 WHIMBRELS were seen from the Wildlife Drive.
 9/18: 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were seen along the Wildlife Drive.


Onondaga County


 9/13: This was the last day a WESTERN SANDPIPER was seen at Oneida Shores 
in Brewerton.
 9/15: A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was seen at Oneida Shores and has continued 
up to today. 5 SABINE’S GULLS and an adult LAUGHING GULL were both found at 
Onondaga Lake. The Sabine’s were first noted at the Honeywell Visitor’s Center 
near the State fair and the Laughing Gull was spotted at the Liverpool Marina. 
A SABINE’S GULL was seen in the area up to 9/19 and the LAUGHING GULL was see 
again today at Lakeview Point near the Ampitheater,A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL 
was seen at the Marshy Spits south of the Honeywell Center. A DICKCISSEL was 
seen at the Marshy Spits up to 9/17.
 9/17: A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen at Oneida shores Beach. A COMMON 
NIGHTHAWK was seen at Onondaga Lake Park.
 9/18: A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was seen at Oneida Shores Beach.
 9/19: A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER and a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW were spotted 
near Lakeview Point on Onondaga Lake.A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen at Onondaga 
Shores Park.


Oswego County


 9/13: A COMMON RINGED PLOVER and a SNOWY PLOVER were both found at the 
outlet of Sandy Pond. The SNOWY PLOVER was the first sighting in New York and 
the COMMON RINGED PLOVER possibly only the third sighting. 
the Common Ringed Plover was only seen on the 13th but the snowy Plover was 
seen up to 9/16. Other Shorebirds seen thet day and for some through the week 
were BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER, RUDDY 
TURNSTONE, RED KNOT, SANDERLING, BAIRD’S SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, 
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, both DOWITCHERS, SPOTTED SANDPIPER and both 
YELLOWLEGS. As of yesterday only 9 shorebird species were seen in the area 
without any of the rarities. also on the 13th. a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and a 
GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH were found in that area.
 9/14: 2 FORSTER’S TERNS were seen on Carl Island which is just east of the 
Outlet and continues through the 16th.
 9/17: A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER and a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were seen at 
Oneida Shores Beach. 
 9/19: A CACKLING GOOSE, a LINCOLN’S SPARROW and a PINE SISKIN were all 
found in the area around the Sandy Pond Outlet. A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen 
at a private residence in Constantia.
 9/20: A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH and 14 SWAINSON’S THRUSHES were seen at the 
Rice Creek Biological Field Station in Oswego.


Madison County


 9/19: A DICKCISSEL was seen on Ditchbank Road north of Canastota.


Oneida County


 9/17: One RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continues at Verona Beach State Park at 
the east end of Oneida Lake.
 9/19: A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH was seen at Pixley Falls State park north of 
Rome. A RUSTY BLACKBIRD, a PHILADELPHIA VIREO and a SWAINSON’S THRUSH were all 
seen at Sparing Farm Nature Sanctuary south of Clinton.
