Re: [cayugabirds-l] Thayer's Gull at compost piles per Tim Lenz
Hi everyone, In addition to the 1st cycle Thayer's, there was an adult Iceland Gull at the compost piles this afternoon. Both took off for the lake at 3:45. In the field, the two stood next to each for size and structure comparison. The more Herring Gull-like robustness is nicely seen in photos posted to eBird from Jay and Tim (links at end). I had somewhat distant looks at both in the scope, and was not seeing very strong contrast on the primaries (again distance), secondary bar, and tail, and was expressing these concerns to others in the field. However the photos hint at a much stronger Thayer's candidate. (The) adult Iceland was seen at Stewart Park around 4pm, on the ice in the southeast corner. Tufted Duck was not thoroughly searched for, so no update on that one. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S21436467 http://ebird.org/ebird/alert/summary?sid=SN35084 Brendan Fogarty On Tuesday, January 20, 2015 1:33 PM, bob mcguire bmcgu...@clarityconnect.com wrote: I just came from the compost piles w/probable Thayer’s Gull. Tim/Brad - why Thayer’s and not Iceland? Re: [cayugabirds-l] Glaucous Gull, Stewart Park
In addition, there was an adult Iceland Gull quite close the Glaucous Gull. The wingtips appeared entirely white, although it was observed from a considerable distance. Nearly seven thousand diving ducks were off of Hog's Hole, and were not amused by the presence of a young Bald Eagle. [cayugabirds-l] Broad-winged Hawk - Cornell Campus (4/8)
Hi everyone, A brief hawkwatch (1:30 PM-2:20PM) from the Ecology House on Cornell's North Campus by Eric Gulson, Ben Barkley, and myself produced an adult Broad-winged Hawk along with some American Kestrels and Sharp-shinned Hawks along with the usual Red-tailed Hawks and vultures. Apart from hawks, we had 11 Common Loons going over to the north and northwest.
