Jan. 4, Saturday, 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.  Hot Cocoa and Snow- Snowshoe Hike
Meet Amy Barra, our new Environmental Education Specialist, for a snowshoe hike
around the Montezuma Audubon Center. We’ll hike through snow muffled forests,
across grasslands and out to the usually inaccessible Crusoe Lake to look for
winter birds and signs of mammals! After the hike, we’ll warm up with hot cocoa
in the Center! Fee with snowshoe rental: $6/child $8/adult. Fee without rental:
$4/child, $6/adult.

Jan. 9, Thursday, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Montezuma Raptor Van Tour
Raptors have invaded the Montezuma Wetlands Complex and now is a great time to
see them! Hop in the Montezuma Audubon Center van for an excursion to
Montezuma’s premier birding locations to encounter snowy owls, short-eared
owls, bald eagles, rough-legged hawks and more! Participants are encouraged to
bring their camera. Fee: $8/child; $13.50/adult.

Jan. 23, Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  Cayuga Lake Birding Van Tour
Cayuga Lake is an Audubon designated Important Bird Area because of the
incredible number of waterfowl that use the lake during winter and migration
seasons. Hop in the Montezuma Audubon Center van for an excursion to the
northern part of the lake where up to 30 species of ducks, geese and swans can
be seen. Bald eagles and snowy owls are a possibility too! Participants are
encouraged to bring their camera. Fee: $8/child; $13.50/adult.

Jan. 25, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.  Owl Prowl
Live owls will be on display during an indoor presentation with Jean Soprano of
the Kindred Kingdoms Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. You’ll find out what
adaptations these birds have that allow them to be successful hunters of the
night. Then, join the Montezuma Audubon Center staff to search for snowy owls
and the endangered short-eared owls in the grasslands around Montezuma. Fee:
$6/child, $8/adult, $25/family.

Best wishes,

Chris Lajewski, Interim Center Director
