[cayugabirds-l] Mt Pleasant Lapland Longspur - photos

2010-12-25 Thread Marie P Read
HI all,

The Mt Pleasant Lapland Longspur was feeding on corncobs in the same place as
yesterday with a single Horned Lark and two Snow Buntings. Close to the road at
times and easily visible. I was there between 10:00 and 11:30 am. Some photos
are posted here:

A very nice Christmas bird!

If you go up to view the Longspur, you might also want to look for the
CLOUD of some 300 Snow Buntings on Mt Pleasant. For the last two days
(and likely longer) they have been feeding in the field to the west
and downslope from the observatory. From time to time they erupt in a
swirling, twittering mass, circle this way and that, and then settle
back to feeding. It's a beautiful scene!

[cayugabirds-l] Mt Pleasant Lapland Longspur

2010-12-24 Thread Marie P Read
Well, darn it! Steve Fast beat me to it re. posting Lapland Longspur on Mt
Pleasant today, but on my way out to buy ingredients for Christmas Pudding
around 9:15 am, I saw one longspur foraging quite close to the road in the corn
stubble field where Snow Buntings, crows, turkeys etc have been feeding of
late. Th longspur was still there on my way back around 10:30 so I dumped the
groceries and headed up the hill with my camera.
I'll post photos later, after I've constructed the pudding and sampled all the
ingredients (especially the brandy)! Hic! Happy Christmas all!
