With today's north winds, lots of loons were moving past Myers Point this morning, mostly quite high. They started pretty much as soon as I arrived at 7, but by 7:30 there wasn't a loon in the sky. I wasn't able to pick out any Red-throated from the distant migrating birds, but a nice adult RED-THROATED LOON popped up right in front of me at the lighthouse and I later saw it out on the lake and then north of the point. Not too many other birds of note...two flocks of REDHEAD flying south and a pair of COMMON GOLDENEYE. Still huge numbers of Ring-billed Gulls roving the lake, but I didn't see any other interesting gulls mixed in. The Salt Point COMMON YELLOWTHROAT survived the night and was still chipping away this morning as well.
Also perhaps of interest to folks who have missed them so far, two juvenile BRANT are still being seen at the mouth of the Treman Marina, visible from the marina itself (at Alan Treman Marine Park) or more distantly from the west end of Stewart Park. Tim had a few Red-throated Loons out on the lake from Stewart as well.
