[cayugabirds-l] No Snowy owl for me at Freeville
Hi all, I made a trip to Freeville to try find the or a Snowy Owl. There were a few more people when I was there all looking for Snowy Owl. We did not find it. I suspect it relaxes during the day time behind some tuft of grass and becomes active in the evening. If anyone sees it please post. I saw two Kestrels and from Rt 366 I saw six TVs. [cayugabirds-l] No Snowy Owl, MZ Tundra Swans, Cacking Goose
Joann and I didn't have any luck with the Snowy Owl at the Waterloo Prem. Outlet late this morning. We drove and scanned around the inside, the outside service road and from the elevated thruway overpass on the road on the west side. We did not check the north/south roads. From the main pool overlook at Montezuma we counted 800 sleeping Tundra Swans. There were actually probably 20-30 more hidden behind each other. 1 Cackling Goose was among the 2000 Canada Geese, Mallards and Black Ducks. 1 adult Bald Eagle was out near the main pool nest tree now missing its nest. 3 Immature eagles sparred at the north end of the main pool. (The drive is closed). The pair of Eagles at the Route 89 Route 31 junction at the muck lands were both on the nest working. The muck lands were mostly frozen with 1 Canada goose. The only Snow Goose we saw was in the canal at May's point. 1 Rough-legged Hawk and 1 No.Harrier flew over the Van Dyne Spoor Road marshes.Mike Tetlow -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] No Snowy, Montezuma
Spent early morning at Montezuma (auto route), lots of C. Geese, T. Swans, Am Tree Sparrows, and a pair of Red-winged Blackbirds. Also had a few N. Harriers, mature Bald Eagle, Ring-necked and Scaup (Lesser?) in/along the Seneca River. Lots of Mallards & Gadwall flying around. More T. Swans & N. Harriers at Knox-Marsellus. Spent a couple hours at Premium Outlets (shopping & searching for Snowy) without seeing any sign of him/her. I was also concerned about the Thruway traffic. One note however, I think Friday is a big delivery day out there (a lot of trucks were on the back access road) so that may be why Snowy wasn't around. Anyone that re-finds it please post! -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
