Hi all, Stewart Park this morning: the Common Mergansers are performing their courtship flights/chases and pairs are looking at nest sites.
Mt Pleasant this afternoon (1:30 to 2:30) has its first Killdeer of the season, and while I was watching that, a magnificent male Northern Harrier flew up and began circling higher and higher before heading off. Several Horned Larks in the fields. An addition to the welcome spring sounds: a Brown Creepers singing from the wood along Mt Pleasant Rd. An Eastern Bluebird was checking out a nest box on a utility pole opposite the observatory. My yard just now: A Chipping Sparrow has joined the few Common Redpolls on the nyjer seed feeder. The redpolls suddenly froze as a Sharp-shinned Hawk just strafed the feeders before flying off.
