[cayugabirds-l] White winged tern south of Wellsboro, PA on 287

2017-08-13 Thread John and Fritzie Blizzard
PLEASE note: That is Rte. 287, not 257. The sign for 287 can be elusive
as you near the end of the main shopping area where you turn left at the
light onto Central Ave. at the "Village Green", the little park, home of
the famous Wynken, Blyken & Nod in their wooden shoe statue in the
middle of their "mist" ... water from a fountain spraying over them.

Nessmuk was the pen name of Geo. Washington Sears, an outdoorsman who
loved the Adirondacks & who wrote many articles about his outings, by
canoe, in the Adirondacks.

The very beautiful, White-winged Tern on the wooden pilings at the edge
of Nessmuk Lake is not leery of all the people standing maybe 50 ft. or
so away. Don't go to the fishing dock. Go on down the hill past that
road in the park to the next parking area. And yes, a port-a pottie is
there. (:-) It's the pause that refreshes.)

Kathy Strickland, my daughter, Becky & I were there late this afternoon
& even saw birder, Donna Scott along with folks from Pittsburgh &
Harrisburg, PA. LOTS of people were enjoying the rarity. Also saw
several Cedar Waxwings, a GBH & swallows that I didn't try to ID.
