[cayugabirds-l] Common Redpoll & Hermit Thrush in Brooktondale
Snowed in, so had to make do with yard birds! I was thrilled to FINALLY see our first winter finch--a single Common Redpoll at the feeders here in Brooktondale. Hope he brings his friends. Also, a lingering Hermit Thrush was around again. Re:[cayugabirds-l] Common Redpoll - Dryden Lake Park
There was also one redpoll at a friend's feeder in the Ellis Highlands, off Ellis Hollow Road last Monday. It hung out most of the day. [cayugabirds-l] Common Redpoll snow tunneling
We've seen other species tunnel for warmth and protection but this Common Redpoll chose the location perfectly! Some think they also do this to take a snow bath although we've not read that. Five photos at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kestrel_haven/8459866762/in/photostream/ We had a little over 8 inches overnight followed by lake effect all day today. [cayugabirds-l] Common Redpoll by north feeders at Lab
I just noticed a Common Redpoll perched near the north feeders at the Lab. I didn't see it join the siskins and goldfinches at the feeder, and now I've lost track of it completely o everything just flushed. But worth keeping eyes and ears open already for redpolls. tss -- Thomas S. [cayugabirds-l] Common Redpoll
This morning a single female Common Redpoll was perched briefly above our feeders while I got a good look through binoculars. But it was scared off by a squirrel just as it swooped down to the feeders among all the house finches, goldfinches & juncos. But now it's back at a feeder and I decided I could report it. We're hoping for a cloud of Redpolls as we have had occasionally in years past, for the GBBC. Nari Mistry, Ellis Hollow Rd. -- Nari B. [cayugabirds-l] Common Redpoll at Sapsucker Woods
I had a single Common Redpoll this morning when I arrived at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology a little after 9:00. The redpoll was calling frequently, over the bird-feeding garden by the Lab observatory, and perching in the hawthorns along the short boardwalk behind the bird-feeding garden. Wes Hochachka had a flyover redpoll - presumably the same bird - about an hour earlier, flying over the Wilson Trail north. Good birding, tss -- Thomas S.
