Can you completely shutdown dial peer zero just like you can shutdown

2010-05-02 Thread Wael Agina
Dear Tom,

Actually I bought both INE and IPE.
I want to say that IPE matriel is much better with more and more indepth
tasks and solution and more explanations.
The point that the proctor guide in some labs - especially volume II - not
100 % accurate , so you will have to try a little .

Also I recommend you IPE Walkthrough videos, which is a must [ I heared some
of volume one videos and it is really excellent].

For INE the best is thier VoD by Josh Fink which is really very good.

In brief, The IPE Workbooks 1,2 are the best along with walkthrough video's.

Note: I already tried lab last month with no luck and found IPE material is
very good along with the Outstanding bootcamp with Vik.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm interested in hearing more
about what people think about our new Voice VOD course done by Vik.
The old one (terrible quality) that was done by Mark Snow (before he
was replaced) has been replaced by one redone by Vik (began shipping
about a month ago). (People can get their update - if they haven't
already received it - by emailing sa...@ipexpert.com.)

2010-05-02 Thread Vik Malhi
Thanks Wael. Fingers crossed for your next attempt.

We are finally reaching a point where we have completed all the labs, VOD
and Vol 1 walkthru¹s etc, etc. Our next task, once the vol 2 walkthru¹s are
complete, will be to revisit all the WB labs/solutions and correct typos and
add more detailed explanations where necessary. It has been a difficult job
to record/write new material and at the same time support the existing labs-
hopefully we can improve the job we are doing on the product maintenance
from now on.

I, as always, would appreciate any feedback (privately if bad, publicly if
good- LOL:-) you have on the VOD, WB and Walkthrus.

  Dear Tom,

Actually I bought both INE and IPE.
I want to say that IPE matriel is much better with more and more indepth
tasks and solution and more explanations.
The point that the proctor guide in some labs - especially volume II - not
100 % accurate , so you will have to try a little .

Also I recommend you IPE Walkthrough videos, which is a must [ I heared
some of volume one videos and it is really excellent].

For INE the best is thier VoD by Josh Fink which is really very good.

In brief, The IPE Workbooks 1,2 are the best along with walkthrough
 video's.

Note: I already tried lab last month with no luck and found IPE material is
very good along with the Outstanding bootcamp with Vik.

 Thanks and Best Regards,
 Wael Agina

I found the multilab software really buggy (it crashed every time I

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] volume 2 lab1 task 4.2

2010-05-02 Thread Matthew Berry

Yes! I have finally joined the realm of fellow Vol 2 Cisco nerds.

On Question 4.2, make sure to uncheck Wait for far end H.245 terminal
capability set on the H.225 gatekeeper-control trunk configured in
CUCM. Otherwise, your call from HQ to BR2 will ring, but not be
established.

The reason for it is found in the CUCM SRND, page 8-46
The Wait For Far End H.245 Terminal Capability Set (TCS) option must be
unchecked to prevent
stalemate situations from occurring when the H.323 devices at both sides
of the trunk are waiting
the far end to send TCS first and the H.245 connection times out after a
few seconds.

And again on 16-11
By default, the Wait for Far-End to Send TCS option is enabled
(checked). However, you must uncheck

(disable) it in the following circumstances:

*When the H.323 device communicating with Unified CM is also waiting for
the far-end to send its TCS*
In this case, a stalemate occurs because neither side sends its TCS, and
the H.245 connection times
out after a few seconds. Examples of devices that also wait for the
far-end to send TCS are some
H.323 routed-mode gatekeepers, H.320 gateways, H.323 proxies (or
IP-to-IP gateways) and some
H.323 multipoint conference bridges. These devices wait for the far-end
to send TCS for the same
reason Unified CM does: because they are waiting for both sides of the
connection to send their

TCSs before forwarding them to the other side.

*When communicating with another Unified CM cluster over an intercluster
trunk*
In many scenarios, Unified CM performs the role of a software switch
connecting two endpoint devices
(such as two H.323 clients that are trying to call each other). In such
cases, it is best if Unified CM waits
until both devices have sent their TCS messages so that it knows the
capabilities of each device and can
therefore make the most intelligent decision about what TCS to send back
to each party (depending on
region and location configs, among other things). In these cases, the
Wait for Far-End to Send

TCS feature should be enabled.
However, some other H.323 devices (such as an H.320 gateway, which
connects an H.323 device to an
H.320 device) also perform the function of connecting two or more
parties together. The gateway also
prefers to wait until both ends send their TCS messages, so that it can
make the most intelligent choice
about how to set up the call. A stalemate could result if Unified CM and
the gateway both wait for the
other side to send their TCSs. To avoid this stalemate situation,
disable (uncheck) the Wait for Far-End

to Send TCS feature.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Transcoder and BACD issue

2010-05-02 Thread Vik Malhi
Yes- for calls to the BACD #,unless you use g711 end to end you need a
prefix of some kind otherwise the BACD dial-peer will be used the call will
fail.

(1) Call coming into CME should hit an inbound dial-peer using g729.
(2) Prefix should be stripped either using voice translation profile or
num-exp
(3) Outbound dial-peer should be matched (dial-peer voice 222 voip)
(4) transcoder is engaged.

The transcoder can only ever be engaged when the codec mismatch is between
the inbound and outbound dial-peer (or in a UCM environment when both the
endpoints are registered to UCM and a codec mismatch occurs).

Already done and calls to and from sip work fine. The problem as I see it,
is the dial-peer 222 acts as both incoming and outgoing dial-peer and IS
hardcoded for g711u. Therefore a transcoder will never be invoked#!! As
both inbound and outbound dial-peer is g711u so no codec mismatch no
transcoder.

The only solution I found is to call a different number say 3800 from UCM
call routes to CME hits dial-peer 3800 dial-peer with g729 codec
configured!! I than set up ephone-dn 3800 and call-forward all to BACD pilot
number of 3500. This works.

Again I see no possible way of transcoding this BACD dial-peer configured as
documentation states because it acts as both legs of the call and hardcoded
to g711u so no way is a transcoder going to be invoked.

Thanks Wael. Fingers crossed for your next attempt.

We are finally reaching a point where we have completed all the labs, VOD
and Vol 1 walkthru’s etc, etc. Our next task, once the vol 2 walkthru’s are
complete, will be to revisit all the WB labs/solutions and correct typos and
add more detailed explanations where necessary.

 Thanks and Best Regards,
 Wael Agina

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] GateKeeper Related question

2010-05-02 Thread NATARAJ turuvekere
Hi,

Have a query related a unregistration request.

Steps:

1.Register CUCM to valid8 GK

2.Establish a call between CUCM and Valid8

3.Send release complete from Valid8 to CUCM

4.CUCM retransmits DRQ twice as DCF is not send by valid8

5.From CUCM I delete Trunk(valid8) I donot see Unregistration request
reaching valid8. But I do see the below message. Query is why URQ is not
sent from CUCM?

Please find the logs attached.
