Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] unable to receive any calls on SOME IP Phones..

2011-07-22 Thread Ashraf Ayyash
Rashid ,

1- CCM 4.2 get out of Cisco TAC support :) plan your upgrade please in
cases you need TAC to fix any issue :)

2- if the phone is unknown = unregistered how can you make calls from
it !? what the user hear when the call got disconnected ?

if i were you i will troubleshoot this issue in this logic :

##phones not registered with ccm :

1- make sure the phone indeed reached the CCM and the CCM got skinny
registration message from that phone , or else you have connectivity
issue going in there ,

2- sniffer traces from the CCM and the IP Phone will show ALOT

##phones registered but cannot receive calls :

3- if the phone registered with CCM and you cannot receive calls ,
split it this way :

3-1* can you receive from internal ip phones ?

3-2* when you make outgoing call , you use the phone CSS , when you
receive call , the phone PT should be included in the CSS of the
caller and the users should hear (your call cannot be completed..) if
you having CSS/PT issue,

3-3* if the effected calls is only the external caller though GW , get
some debugs on your GW and check who disconnect the call (CCM/GW)

i hope this will help ,

Thanks
Ash

2011-07-22 Thread William Affeldt
There used to be a bug causing the web page to not show the phones being
registered. I think that was in version 5 though. I would also check srst and
replication if you have multiple call managers.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Memory for your VM & VMware follow up.

2011-07-22 Thread Sam Park
I started the UC apps on VMware Server 2, then after a year migrated to
ESXi.
Performance is much better. On Server 2, which I ran on top of Ubuntu
Linux, sometimes the VM's were sluggish, but enough to study with. On ESXi,
I don't notice that sluggishness.

Also, you could run your Windows OSes on VMWare. More and more, I'm trying
to run everything I can on VMWare. As well, since Cisco is pushing
virtualized UC, it would not be wasted effort to learn and use ESXi.

There is a post earlier in the month where I gave some links for ESXi
VMWare.

And to Bill's point about studying on MAC OSX, I use WinXP on VMWare Fusion
on MacBook Pro, since the student PC will be a Windows machine (XP, I
believe). Run the vSphere client there.

If you mostly use a laptop like I do, then connect a full size PC (not Mac)
Keyboard to study. Again, this what you will use when you sit the lab. The
laptop, as well as Mac, keyboards either lack some important keys for
shortcuts or are located somewhere different than during your practices.
Your muscle memory will be thrown off - every little advantage helps,
right?

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Presence, CUPS and CUPC

2011-07-22 Thread Vega Wong
Hi Experts

I am working on CUPS and CUPC at the moment, I just have some questions with
the setup. So far I have done:

I have successfully set up the integration between CUCM and CUPS. As I can see
all the users and the SIP trunks automatically appears in CUPS.
IPPM works on IP phones, I can send messages between IP Phones
I can add contacts using IPPM, or the User page of CUPS. The contacts will
shows up in CUPC
When I run the system troubleshooter in CUPS, no Red crosses shown. (Except
those items I havent configured - LDAP, voicemail)

My issue is with the CUPC, I can log in the system using the User ID. I can see
the contact added through IPPM or CUPS User page. I can use the CUPC to control
the IP phone. However, at the bottom of the CUPC, it always shown as
"Connected(limited)". Also, I cant search the contact within the CUPS.With the
contact added, it always shown as offline.

I have read that I will need LDAP in order to make the presence status to work
in CUPC, is that true? Can i make this work without the LDAP?

Please help

Cheers

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Memory for your VM & VM ware follow up.

2011-07-22 Thread Stephen Manuel
I have no experience with installing apps in VMware, so I went on Ebay and
bought an internal 1.5t hard drive that had CUCM, UC, Presence, UCCX, etc.
already installed via VMware.

I installed the hard drive in a desktop/server I bought thru an employee
discount program, HP quad core 8gb ram, 1t hd, 21 inch monitor for about
$600, adding the hard drive with the apps already installed, cost under
$800.

I installed 2 additional NIC cards in the server, hard set an ip address in
each, installed VM Workstation to access the apps, I had to make some
additional changes to the VM config files to get them to work with my
network setup, but things work very well.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Mobility - transfer to mobile but no audio

2011-07-22 Thread CCIEVoiceKP
I've setup Mobile Connect and all is working as designed, except for one
small issue. When I'm in a call on the IP Phone and hit the Mobility
Softkey and Transfer to Mobile Phone, the mobile phone rings and the call
connects, however there is no audio. If I hang up the mobile phone and
resume on the IP Phone audio is restored. Anyone ever run into this?
