2012-04-12 Thread Amit Singh
It depends.

If the question is asking you to make sure that phones behave exactly same
under srst as they under cucm. There are many things.

Secondary dial tone.

Soft key templates. Especially on hook off hook, connected state.
Media resources. If any

Date time format

Time zone.

There is. Huge list.

Please try to be as specific as you can with the requirements. Without breaking
nda.

 Hi experts,

I got a very low score in High Availability section while I thought I got
 everything done correctly.

What are the common mistakes in High Availability? Considering both
 Call-Manager-Fallback and Telephony-Service?

 Thank you very much!

I have concerns about High Availability section in the lab.

 1. Has anyone scored 100% in High Availability?

 2. Is there anything beside SRST and BACD that is graded in this
 section?

I have not been able to score 100% in HA yet. My configurations consist of
the standard SRST settings as well as the following settings.

 · Call routing requirements,

 · Voicemail requirements,

 · Date and time requirement,

 · Music on hold,

 · And additional specific requirements which are specifically
 requested.

At the end of my lab I test the requirements to make sure things are
working as expected. and ephone-dns are not in invalid state. And Yet so
far I have got very low scores in HA.

I was once told that we should not assume requirements in CCIE LAB exams.
 But
I suppose I am either doing something extra, or I am missing some

sort of requirments that are not specifcally mentioned . I don’t know what
 am I missing?

Those who are strong in HA, please advice what else should I watch for?
you are also welcome to send me a sample configuration.

 Thanks,

 AJ

 Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] ICT vs H225

 Hello,

Please, can you recomment which one must be used in which situation - ICT vs
 H225 Trunk.

First of all, I know that the SRND talks about that, but that is more the
theoretical one, whereas I need some real practical recommendation.

So the first thing that I have tested for differences between ICT and H225
 Trunks:

All H323 connections are made between CUCM and CUCME, either directly or
 through gatekeeper or even CUBE.

Direct connect to from CUCM to CUCME.

ICT (Non-GK controlled) - Does not support Supplementary Services
(like hold, transfer and etc) unless the MTP is checked. The CUCME Admin
guide says to use this Trunk type to connect CUCM to CUCME and check the MTP
 on CUCM ICT Trunk.
H323 Gateway - when this type of H323 connection is made to CUCME, the
CUCM IP phone support Supplementary Service even without the MTP checked.

 Connect to CUCME through CUBE

H323 Gateway- wait for far end H245 TCS Unchecked. When using this
type of connetion, I have enabled the emptycapablility command on CUBE, so
that CUCM IP Phones could support Supplementary Service without MTP. While
when using MTP checked, it does not matter any more whether the
emptycapablility is enabled or not, the Supp Service are operational on
 CUCM IP Phones.
ICT (Non-GK controlled) - When using this type of connection to CUBE,
CUCM IP Phones does not support Supplementary Services (even the
emptycapablility is enabled on CUBE), until I check the MTP for this ICT.

 Connect to CUCME using Gatekeeper

ICT (Gatekeeper-controlled) - I beleive, when using this type of
connection, it has the same charasteristics as described already above for
ICT Trunks. (Not Supp-service unless the MTP is used)
H225 Trunk (Gatekeeper-controlled) - I beleive, when using this type of
connection, it has the same charasteristics as described above for H323
 Gateway Type.

Based on that, can you please recommend, at least for the exam, which type
of Connection has to be used for those kinds of H323 connectivity between
 CUCM and CUCME?

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] UCCX and transcoding

2011-12-09 Thread Amit Singh
Think of CTI ports as a phone.

In this case I am talking about a call coming in from Pstn phone..

If the gateway and CTI ports are in different device pool . U will need a
transcoder.

And when the call is transferred to an agent, and let's say the agent and the
gateway are in same device pool. U don't use a transcoder here.

Yes you are right. In this event you will need transcoder only to play prompts.

As I spend more time thinking about this, I think I'm complicating the whole

As you mention, the RP is simply forwarding the call to a CTI Port.

The only time a transcoder would have to be invoked is for the aef script
 when playing prompts.
Otherwise the handoff to an agent would follow the normal regions/codec rules.

So if that is the case, I guess it makes sense that the RP would need to be
in the HQ device pool , to force the call to g.729 based on the GW being in
the SiteB region and the RP being in the HQ region.

 I will test that today.

Strange thing is if I call the RP from a phone in SiteB , the codec gets set
 properly.
It's only when I call from PSTN via SiteB's Gw that the codec doesn't get
forced to g.729 as I would expect.

Well I think you need to use the transcoding based on the CTI ports, not the

I have the MGCP GW in Site B in a Device Pool (SiteB)
UCCX CTI-RP is in Device Pool (SiteB)
and CTI-Ports are all in Device Pool (HQ)

Per my region configuration, g.729 is required between HQ and SiteB.

My expectation is the call will arrive in SiteB and based on region
requirements, will be setup as a g.729 call.

A transcoder would be needed at the UCCX side to get to g.711.

Would I be correct in thinking the CTI-Port should invoke trancoding out of
the MRGL assigned to the HQ dev pool ?

Currently the call comes in and I see the MGCP gateway with a g.711 call, so
it appears it's going across the WAN as g.711.

I know I'm missing some understanding here.
 Any input is appreciated.

Regarding DHCP it can be done. The configuration should be as follow. This
will work for different phone models which is the case in CCIE LAB as Phone 1

 Hi,

SIP early offer is similar to H323 Fast-Start. With SIP EO the INVITE
includes the SDP with the possible Media Options, Codecs for example. Without
an NTP/Transcoder CUCM is not able to do EO on SIP Trunks.

But, regarding the DHCP Part, there I am totally lost. I know how to
configure DHCP on IOS, so that each host will become his “own” IP Address,
every time. Its done with the host and client-id commands under the DHCP
Pools. But, I have no glue hwo to do for a couple of devices with only ONE
DHCP Pool. The way I do it I need 2 Pools, minimum.

Could you please provide a complete Link to the documentation which explains
how to do it? That would be great!

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] fix replication on UCM and CUPS

2011-11-03 Thread Amit Singh
Hi Donny.

Rest of the steps mentioned below are right. I would say use util
dbreplication stop command on pub before u actually restart the pub. This
command has always worked for me.

Because in lab u don't have much time to restart call manager servers again and
again.

 Hi Donny,

 What I would suggest is:

 0. Pray
 1. Check replication
 2. If broken, reload Pub, wait for about 5 minutes and then reload sub.
 3. Start reading the lab during the wait for about 5 minutes period.
 4. Once the sub reload has been initiated, start configuring the GWs
 (MGCP/H.323/dial-peers/CME basics)
 5. Once done configuring the GWs, check replication and it should be fixed
 (fingers crossed).

If it isn't fixed, then stop dbreplication on sub, then on pub and initiate a
 reset all from pub.

There is also a document which goes into the details of DB replication issues:

 https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-13672

This is quite extensive and frankly speaking if we need to start
troubleshooting this, then it might just turn out to be a $1500 lunch.

A reload usually takes care of this in a lab environment.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Unity Connection - Call Handler

2011-08-26 Thread Amit Singh
The same apply when a forwarding rule or direct routing rule comes in the
picture.

And the different is clearly visible. Mate there are so many things in unity
connection and whole voice labs. I think it's very hard for ipx guys to put
every detail in the 10 labs.

I think it's students responsibility as well to read SRND and admin guide of
every product used in the lab. I think ipx has done a good job.

But mate I guess u have 100% rights to speak your heart out.

 Hi,
In Unity connection we can send a call to a call handler by 2 methods.
 1. Attempt Transfer
 2. Go Directly to Greetings

Online help (help menu from CUC GUI) mentions like this :
Call Handler-Sends the call to the system call handler that you specify.
Specify whether the call should transfer to the call handler extension or go
directly to the greeting of the handler.

When I checked default Opening Greeting call handler , relevant call routing
rule sends call to this call handler using Attempt Transfer method. But
this call handler doesn't have an extension configured.

I think CUC online help is not correct.

Any comment on how to interpret this help page description.

Hi

I have just tested this in my lab. The command does the trick and works as
expected.

3001 cfwall 3002

Now from pstn I call 3001. Phone 3002 rings as expected which transfer the call
to voicemail 3600 after timeout.

And i hear 3001 is unavailable.

 Dear All,

I have BR2 in SRST abd all voicemail is OK, CUE is working fine with BR2
 in SRST.
 All phone2 br2 ph1, ph2 4001/4002 can send and recieve vm messages.

However i set CFA on 4001 to CFwdALL to 4002, now when call from pstn, the
cue run vm greeting of 4002 not 4001.
ALso if 4002 is CFwdALL to 4001, any caller to 4002 have call fwd to 4001 and
hears 4001 VM greeting, not 4002.

I think we should have some kind of options on CUE to take care of
redirecting number as i need to hear the redirecting VM greeting ?
 Any Idea ?

That configuration has always worked for me mate.

I have finished a complete lab without using transcoder in the lab and tested
multiple time codec used in the question.

I can assure you that. That a sip phone cme supports multiple codecs without
any transcoder with just voice-class under sip phone.
