[OSL | CCIE_Voice] mlp vs frf.12 when to use ???

2012-06-27 Thread Krishna
hi folks,

from my observations, i found that mlp would be used if and only if, there are
two sites connecting to a single site via the same physical interface. And, for
frf.12 we use it for ppp link. please correct me or advise me if i m wrong.

Thank you

MLP (multilink PPP) as a technology exists to allow multiple links between a
pair of sites to act as one logical link. MLP by itself originally didn't
support Link Fragmentation and Interleaving (LFI) over Frame Relay. The two
technologies that you are studying (MLP LFI Over FR/ATM and FRF.12) are, from
your perspective, both methods of providing LFI.

In terms of the IPExpert topology, we only have one link between a pair of
sites (A to B and A to C). However, we can still use either MLP LFI over FR or
FRF.12 to provide interleaving of delay-sensitive voice traffic with fragmented
delay-insensitive traffic.

In the real-world, if you had low-speed Frame Relay links end-to-end, you'd
use FRF.12. If you had to deal with Frame Relay to ATM interworking, MLP LFI
would be the better choice. Obviously, this is becoming an obsolete topic as we
deal with less and less Frame Relay, very little if any ATM, and fewer and
fewer links that are slower than 768 kbps.
