2013-11-20 Thread Karen Johnson
in all attempts I couldn't sleep the night before, drink wine will help.
also no study at all at night before exam, just watch movie or spoil yourself.

wake up early in morning on the exam day and review quickly the notes

do not wait for version 9 , I am pretty sure very less will pass on first year
after version change.
if I were you, I will give 1 more try for this version in next month because
your brain, speed, and adaptability that you practice for years will gone when
we stop and hard to restart again.

I understand most people will feel down after failed, happen to my few
attempts. but the one who passed is the one who  overcome this feeling.

good luck

Hi Everyone,
I took my second attempt Nov. 7th at RTP. Unfortunately, I was not successful,
but I do have a some good reminders or tips for those of you still going for
Voice.

First, many many people on this list stress how important it is to make a plan
and stick to it. I can't echo that enough. I had a great plan using a modified
'device based method' in conjunction with a notepad dial plan following the
layout that Somphol made. My plan was awesome and I was crushing the lab. By
lunch time I had nearly half of the lab completed and tested and I was feeling
great! After lunch I made the fatal mistake of breaking from my plan and I
tried to go after a few questions that were worth a bunch of points - big
mistake. I ended up getting caught trying to figure something out that I never
should have attempted and in the end, wouldn't have mattered anyhow.
Stick-to-the-PLAN!

Second, make sure to sleep in the days before the lab. It's kind of a
no-brainer, but it's something most people don't do. Don't bother cramming the
night or week before the exam. If you don't know it by then, you're probably
not going to get it in time for the lab. You're not going to sleep the night
before, so take the time to get some rest. I've read study after study that say
a good nights sleep and regular rest will help you retain information better.

Make sure you know where to find information you don't memorize (i.e. URLs,
BACD, QoS configs, etc). We've seen a few posts about Cisco changing the
location of items on their site, so make sure to remember where things have
moved.

For those of you that are in a similar position as I am, remember that most of
what we've learned converts to Collaboration, so just stick with it and keep
studying.

I've decided to take the next few months off and hit the Collaboration hard in
2014. Most if not all of us are probably working with CUCM 9 and VMware, so the
transition should be easier.

Have a great year guys and best of luck and God Bless to those of you trying to
get your number this year!

2011-07-13 Thread Cristobal Priego
sometimes it's hard to keep the motivation after you've failed the test and
you see your score. try to find a study partner that will make you commit
to get the cert, get updates frequently and stuff. i have taken the lab
twice in the last 2 months and i'm going for my third attempt next week.
it's great to have a motivation like a raise, i don't know if i'm going to
get a raise if i get my cert, but i know i'm going to gain credibility and
trust, and perhaps a job offer. I live and work in northern California and
i wish there was a great market for ccie's or maybe there is but i haven't
been looked at those opportunities yet. there are great people knowledgeable
willing to pass this test, try to find them and keep it up
i've been studying for a bit over 1.5 years now for this test and i'd love
to pass it sooner than later.

Believe me, I was pissed after my second attempt and failed as well. I'm
taking 3rd attempt next thursday. Some things changed from when I took it
in March and in June. so the best advice I could give is to try it over and
over as quick as possible until you get it. I've got a big raise on the
line, so the incentive to pass is big. I just started a new job that was a
huge raise from my last job, and that was because I was studying CCIE
Voice. I probably wouldn't have gotten the interview without it. I cannot
speak for all countries and areas, but in the Southeast US, this
certification is HIGHLY in demand. More in demand than CCIE R&S by a long
shot.

I agree it seems like cisco is hell-bent on failing everyone with silly
requirements, and being shady about telling you what to study, but the fact
of the matter is, if you want the recognition that comes with CCIE Voice,
you have to grin, bear it, and take it like a woman ;)

Good Morning (EST).

I made a 2nd attempt last week in RTP and didn’t make it. It was quiet there
with only one other candidate and one proctor.Lunch was good as always
though.

I finished most of the test but had to skip QoS because of time.

I have been practicing a lot sense my first attempt but not enough apparently.

I feel the IPExpert material has prepared me and will prepare me well enough to
pass some day. The “think outside the box” questions from my first 2 attempts
I will work on in the home lab and PL time.

My stagey was to get all of the foundation config in place which included all
of the integrations of all the applications listed in the blue print which were
on my exams. I completed one questions from each section to make sure the
integration pieces were up. I was going to complete the rest after the dial
plan was complete.

I would test a little along the way but have learned that usually a reset or
reboot later in the day fixes things. : )

I started the dial plan right before lunch so I could think about it during
lunch. Then after lunch I kept working on it. I think it is more straight
forward then they word it. But that is life and that is why we all struggle
with it. I almost think the dial plan is a reading comprehension exercise.
Through IPExpert you lean all the tools for configuring a proper dial plan. I
just have to lean to apply those tools to the question based on the way they
ask it.

What I will practice is reading all the mock lab dial plan sections and mapping
out a solution on paper first so I understand it and then practice executing it
during my lab time.

All though we all know the old way of doing the dial plan I have been doing the
labs then new way since that is the expert way and will be the way for the day
job going forward.

I would like to thank the group for answering some of my questions. I feel the
OSL is good but like most followers I can’t always find time to read it and
respond to other questions from candidates.

I am scheduled for Vic’s mock lab towards the end of March. I have not
scheduled a 3rd attempt yet. My company is reviewing things and may not let me
be out of town for 2 weeks in a row.

That is all for now. Enjoy the journey.

Hang in there. You'll nail it next time. If it were easy - CCIE Voice
