[ccp4bb] Postdoctoral position in Chemical & Structural Biology of PPIs, Ciulli Lab, College of Life Science, Dundee

2013-04-05 Thread Alessio Ciulli
Reference Number:LS0313

Job Title:Postdoctoral Research ASsociate

College:College of Life Sciences

School:Life Sciences Research

Division:Biological Chemistry and Drug Discovery

Grade:*Grade 7 (£29,541 - £36,298)** *

Job Category:Research

Closing Date:1 May 2013

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the new laboratory of
Dr. Alessio Ciulli (http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/people/alessio-ciulli)
to work on a project funded by the BBSRC. We are looking for an
enthusiastic and motivated post-doctoral scientist to join a team of
researchers broadly interested in Chemical & Structural Biology of
Protein-Protein Interactions.

You will investigate structure-function relationships within a family of
human proteins containing bromodomains. We are interested in unveiling the
molecular basis underpinning selectivity of small-molecule probes targeting
such domain, which read histone post-translational modifications and are
found in histone acetyl transferases and other chromatin-associated
proteins involved in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression. The
ultimate goal of the research is to aid elucidation of the roles of
individual bromodomains in human biology and disease.

The project will involve protein engineering, purification and
crystallization, structure solution by X-ray crystallography, and
structural and biophysical techniques to study protein-ligand interactions
and determine structure-activity relationships. It is in collaboration with
Prof. Stefan Knapp at the Structural Genomics Consortium of Oxford
University (see Molecular Biosystems (2011) 7, 2899-908).

*The ideal candidate will posses or be able to demonstrate the following: *

• A PhD with outstanding academic track record and at least one first
authored publication in an internationally recognized peer-reviewed journal
(published or in press)
• Enthusiasm for Science
• Independence
• Strong background in protein purification and crystallography, X-ray data
collection (in-house and at synchrotrons), structure solution and model
refinement
• Experience with biophysical techniques studying protein-ligand
interactions; a strong interest in fragment-based / structure-based drug
design and/or protein NMR would be advantageous
• Capable of working in a team, but able to plan and work independently
• Excellent communication skills and knowledge of the English language are
essential

*Ciulli lab / College of Life Sciences / Division of Biological Chemistry &
Drug Discovery:*

You will be working in a highly international research group that operates
across the disciplines of chemical & structural biology, molecular
biophysics, medicinal chemistry and drug design. More information on our
group can be found on http://www-ciulli.ch.cam.ac.uk/index.htm. Training,
as required, will be provided in a well-equipped, well-funded and
supportive environment enabling the successful candidate to extend skills
and expertise.

The College of Life Sciences is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities
to conduct cutting-edge research in all aspects of modern chemical biology,
structural biology and molecular biophysics.

The Division of Biological Chemistry & Drug Discovery (BCDD) aims to
discover chemical solutions to biological problems through excellence in
basic and applied multidisciplinary research. For further information about
the Division of Biological Chemistry & Drug Discovery, please consult our
website: http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/research/bcdd.

This post is available until December 2014.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr. Alessio Ciulli, e-mail:
a.ciu...@dundee.ac.uk.
