[ccp4bb] Postdoc and PhD positions in membrane protein structural biology

2014-05-27 Thread Henning Tidow

Dear colleagues,

Postdoc and PhD positions are available in (membrane) protein
biochemistry and X-ray crystallography in the newly established research
group of Dr. Henning Tidow at the Institute for Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology, University of Hamburg, Germany.

Our group studies the structure-function relationship of various
membrane proteins with focus on (but not limited to) IMPs involved in
calcium transport. Typical projects will involve expression,
purification and structural characterization by X-ray crystallography of
membrane proteins as well as functional studies to elucidate their
regulation.

The lab is part of The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging (CUI), a
center of excellence with close ties to the DESY campus hosting the most
advanced light sources PETRA III and the upcoming European XFEL and thus
providing great opportunities for structural biology research.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in
structural biology. A background in macromolecular X-ray crystallography
as well as protein purification and crystallization would be an
advantage. For the postdoc position the candidate must demonstrate
strong research potential evidenced by scientific publications in the
area of (membrane) protein crystallography. Good English language skills
are essential; knowledge of German is not required.

The positions are funded by The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging
(CUI) and initially available for up to three years. Salary will be
according to the collective agreement (German TVL scale). In case of
equivalent qualifications, disabled applicants will be preferentially
considered.

Applications and informal inquiries about the position should be sent to
Henning Tidow by email (ti...@chemie.uni-hamburg.de). Applications
should include a CV, a letter of motivation detailing research interests
and expertise, and contact details for at least two referees. The
positions will remain open until suitable candidates are found.

Best wishes,
Henning

*Aim:*
The general aim of this International Workshop is to train students in
state-of-the-art approaches for drug discovery and rational design, with
special emphasis on target-based methods. The course will provide with a
multidisciplinary view, with invited professors covering a diverse set
of subjects : protein crystallography, in silico methods for molecular
simulations, medicinal chemistry and biology of neglected infectious
diseases.** For details of the activity please see the preliminary
program.

The course will be in English.

This activity is supported by the /Center for Structural Biology of the
MERCOSUR /(CeBEM ), jointly with the /United
Nations University Biotechnology Programme for Latin America and the
Caribbean/ (UNU - BIOLAC ).

*
**Applicants:*

Graduate students and young research scientists are encouraged to apply.
24 students will be selected among the applications. The Course will

Do check for any differences in format..
Or attach the sca file and I can check why/what (maybe!)
