The numbers do make sense now: AaA, AbA, etc, correspond to different HETATM
groups and (what was confusing me a lot) the No. atoms includes riding
hydrogens.

There is an A- and a B-chain in the structure, each with their own waters, but
can someone explain the AaA, AbA,...AeA, BaB...BcB  notation please, since it
is not obvious how this relates to the contents of the PDB file. Thank you.

[ccp4bb] Postdoctoral Position on Membrane Protein Structural Biology at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden

2019-05-03 Thread Madhuranayaki Thulasingam
Dear bulletin board,

A postdoctoral position is available at the Department of Medical
Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB), Division of Chemistry 2, Karolinska
Institute, Stockholm. The project is focused on overexpression,
purification, and crystallization of human integral membrane enzymes
involved in the generation of lipid mediators of inflammation, all of which
are drug targets.

MBB is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet equipped
with a range of state-of-the-art technologies in basic research, in
particular, structural biology, proteomics, imaging, and animal models. It
hosts world-leading groups in areas such as molecular neurobiology, matrix
biology, vascular biology, redox regulation, and lipid mediators of
inflammation, which together create a vibrant research environment.

A prospective candidate should hold a recently obtained PhD in structural
biology, biochemistry or a related area and a strong background in protein
chemistry, crystallization and structure determination by X-ray
crystallography and/or Cryo-EM, specifically membrane proteins. The
position is initially available for 2 years with a possibility of extension.

Interested candidates should send a letter of intention and CV including
references as a single PDF file by email to jesper.haeggst...@ki.se and

madhuranayaki.thulasin...@ki.se. The position will remain open until
filled.

Best wishes,

Madhu.

[ccp4bb] Home/EU PhD studentship at Leicester

2019-05-03 Thread Peter Moody
I have funding to cover the stipend and fees for up to 4 years for a PhD
student, funded by the Royal Society.

I should be most grateful if you could tell your brightest and best
students. I am particularly keen recruit someone who wants to explore new
(and not so new) and exciting ways to look at the way enzymes work.
Imagination and curiosity will be needed.

[ccp4bb] Last chance to apply: Workshop "Diffraction Data Collection Using Synchrotron Radiation"

2019-05-03 Thread Manfred S. Weiss

Dear all,

the application deadline for this popular workshop has been
extended to May 08.

Cheers, Manfred

I would hereby like to announce the 6th edition of the workshop
"Diffraction Data Collection Using Synchrotron Radiation", which
will take place from July 04-06, 2019 at the BESSY II storage
ring of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin for Materials and Energy
(HZB) in Berlin.

This workshop is the successor to five previous successful work-
shops, which took place in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2016. It is
sponsored by the German Society for Crystallography (DGK) and
organised in cooperation with the DGK Working Group 1 (Biological
Structures).

The workshop comprises a series of basic lectures on the topic
and two extended practical sessions. It is aimed at PhD students
in Biological Crystallography with little or no experience in
diffraction data collection at a synchrotron. The practical sessions
will take place at the MX beamlines located at the electron storage
ring BESSY II.

The workshop fee is 100 EUR for DGK-members and 120 EUR for non-members.
This fee covers all conference material as well as board and lodging
for two nights on the campus in Berlin-Adlershof.

For more information please visit the web page
https://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/events/dgk/index_en.html

The application page is now open. Since the number of students will
have to be limited to 20 in order to ensure that the practical sessions
run efficiently, we expect that the workshop will fill up quickly.
Participants are also expected to present a poster on their own work.
As previously, the best poster will be awarded with an attractive prize.
