Re: [ccp4bb] Full-screen stereo with Coot/PyMol/etc on 3D LCD displays?

2011-01-25 Thread Harry M. Greenblatt

According to the NVIDIA website, the Mac versions of the Quadro FX
4800 and the Quadro 4000 have 3 pin stereo ports, and there is
nothing that I could find that says that the MAC drivers for these
cards don't support quad-buffered stereo using the new LCD screens
and NVIDIA glasses (that would be Stereo mode 10 under Linux).

Has someone received an official answer from NVIDIA that they do
*not* work?

Harry

Zalman uses passive LCD stereo, however. From the thread of this
discussion, it appears that active LCD stereo (using a 120Hz
monitor, NVidia graphics card etc.) will not work on a Mac? Has
anyone had a successful experience using active LCD stereo on a Mac?

I raised this issue here back in November. Someone, whose email I cannot now
find, replied off-list to say that they had been told by nVidia that 3D Vision
did not work on Macs.

nVidia's website is a little confused. Their 3D Vision pages say that it
requires Microsoft Windows XP 32/64 bit, Vista 32/64-bit or Windows 7
32/64-bit, Linux 32/64 bit. Their Quadro FX4800 for Mac page says that
Professional 3D Stereo Solutions enables robust control of stereo effect
through a dedicated 3-pin mini-din connection between the graphics card and 3D
stereo hardware and links to the 3D Vision pages.

I spent quite a while looking at this last year and found several people who
couldn't get it to work and none who could.

2011-01-25 Thread Carlos R. Escalante

Dear Hudel,

I have Zalman monitors M215W connected to an iMac and to a PowerMac and
both pymol and coot work well. I also tested the monitors in my MacBook
pro and they work fine. The MacBook pro has an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M,
the iMac has an ATI Radeon 5750 and the MacPro has ATI radeon 5770.
The only issue that I found is that in pymol , you have to start
pymol and then type stereo on the pymol command lines. This may not be
necessary for other installations, but this is the way I got it to work.

Hi Amir,
I have VMware WindowsXP (guest) running on Centos5 (host) running.
Open GL - 3D does not work. VMware emulates the graphics board. VMware

I don't know whether a newer version will do; I doubt.

Hi,

Does newer 3-D hardware work using VMWare/Windows on a Mac?

Thanks!

(add-key-binding switch to mono x (lambda ()

and this to your Pymol alias in your .bashrc file (if running through X11)
