[cctalk] May need help buying computer in Houston - I’m in CA

[cctalk] Re: Wanted: Apple III 5MB Profile HD driver file
Thanks Bill, I actually got it working. All of the driver floppy disks had 10MB written in them in pen, but they worked ok with the 5MB Profile. I also had to try a different I/O card to get it working. Steve. [cctalk] Wanted: Apple III 5MB Profile HD driver file
The title says it all - the Apple III has an external hard drive called the Profile, but a driver has to be installed on the boot floppy - it won’t boot from the HD. There were also 10MB Profiles, with a different driver file I’m guessing. I have the driver file for the 10MB, but it doesn't seem to work with my 5MB drive. Please help if you can. Thanks- Steve.
[cctalk] IMSAI 8800b with floppy for sale near Chicago
Anyone near Chicago want to pick-up a nice Altair 8800B with Altair floppy drive for $1500? It isn't mine, and the working status is unknown. They don't want to ship it. Pictures available here: http://oldcomputers.net/temp/ Let me know and I'll connect you. Thanks- Steve.
[cctalk] You have Apple Lisa 1 "twiggy" system to trade for my IBM 5100 Portable PC?
This seems like a good place to ask this question - I'd like an Apple Lisa 1 "twiggy" system for my collection, and can trade a working IBM 5100 Portable PC. We'd probably have to meet in person to make the transaction. I'm in So CA. Thanks- Steven Stengel http://oldcomputers.net
Old Mac IICX to give away in Los Angeles/Orange County.
Free Macintosh IICX in Orange County CA area. Sometimes it boots, often it doesn’t (power supply issue?). Also HD has stiction issues. Also the tall profile monitor has a very smeary image. Other than that, it’s great! Everything is included - computer with cover, keyboard, mouse, monitor.
Re: Update: Received my 50lb Datapoint 2200 computer from Austria via regular post.
Sorry for top-post - it’s the yahoo app. So the purpose of the extra screen layer is to prevent crt implosion? How did you remove it? It’s safe to remove it, as long as I don’t hit the screen with a hammer? Thanks-Steve. Update: Received my 50lb Datapoint 2200 computer from Austria via regular post.
Found a Datapoint 2200 in Austria that I wanted - I asked seller Viktor to pack it well, by wrapping it several times in big-bubble bubbewrap, until it was just a giant cube of bubble wrap. See pics here: http://oldcomputers.net/box/ The cover was actually sent separately in another box so it didn't crushed by the 50 pound system. First, I have to rewire it from 220vac to 110vac. Second - what to do about that screen?
Update: Shipping 50 lb computer from Zell am See, Austria to CA.
Well, I knew the computer, just not the city. It's Zell am See, a small town in western Autria, far from everywhere it seems. The computer is a Datapoint 2200 - 50lbs, 10x19x20 inches. I want to get it shipped to Calfornia, where I live. The cheapest option is to just use local Austria mail, but max dimensions are 60x60x100cm, or 23.5x23.5x40 inches. That would leave just 2-inches on each of two sides for padding. Best option - remove the plastic cover and mail it separately. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the entire bottom of the computer seems to be a solid piece of metal, like the Apple III = very strudy. The back is a giant metal heat sink. I think it's do-able, do you? Steve.
Shipping from Europe to USA
How do I ship a 50 pound computer from Europe to the United States? Who has good rates? Thanks- Steve
Anyone live near Walnut Creek, CA?
There's a weird Sord M23P (I think) from the early 80's at this elderly persons house in Walnut Creek, CA - East of the bay. She can't pack and ship it - it's too big and heavy. It was actually sent to her by mistake, it was supposed to be sent to my house, 500 miles away. It's nothing rare or valuable - you can actually have it if you go and pick it up - I really just want it out of her house. Let me know! Steve

Regarding the previous message, all email will be obfuscated to foil scrapers.
Directory of old computer collectors #2
Regrading the previous message, the map would just show the city, not your actually home address, which I do not have, but to be honest, anyone could find it using the internet.
Directory of old computer collectors
Hi, In the past, I requested the email address and home city of old computer collectors to a compile a list for my own purposes. Over 120 people had responded, which is great! Now I want to make this list PUBLIC with a Google map showing everyones location, email, and collecting preferences. Since I don't have anyone's explicit permission to publish their information, I am now asking. Please let me know if I may, or may not, place your information on the public webpage. Altair, IMSAI, SWTPC, etc. for sale in Philly
* Contact Rick below if interested. * Name: Rick BunkerContact: r...@bunker.us Location: Jenkintown, PA I have a computer collection that I have to sell. My wife and I have separated, and the house is being sold, and I have no place to keep the computers in my new apartment. It is a pretty nice collection. Altair 8800, two IMSAI 8080's, an Apple ][ (not ][+ or e or anything, the first one), a TRS-80 (the real first revision, with no numeric keypad, with the original cassette drive, monitor) an LSI monitor, a KIM-1, an original IBM PC (not an XT -- original 2-floppys, original bios), an SwTPC 6800 box, with no innards. Similarly, a Cromemco box with no innards. A Northstar Horizon. Some 8-inch drives, a bunch of S-100 boards, a luggable Kaypro portable, an odd and an end or two. Lots of documentation. Some old disks which may have readable software on them. I don't power these things up, since they have power supplies that you can weld with, with 40-year-old capacitors on them. Is there anybody in striking distance of Philadelphia suburbs, who would consider buying and picking up this collection?

Available: IBM 5120

Wanted: stand for NeXT monitor
Just acquired a NeXT 68040 cube computer. It's way cool, but the responsiveness is unimpressive - I'd call it pokey. All 16 RAM slots are full for 16MB, but sixteen 4MB RAM sticks may help the speed. It has an internal HD, as well as the magneto-optical drive. One things it's missing is the monitor stand - does anyone have a spare stand for a NeXT N4000A monochrome monitor? Thanks- Steve.
