Is there a place that does repair on panasonic dvd drives?

You may want to investigate the cost of repair vs. the cost of a new
unit. If there is a new unit which you can use, the TCO over a few years
may be sugnificantly lower. That's why repair places are so hard to find
and vendors usually exchange rather than repair waranty failures.

I've tried setting permissions on the device, setuid bit and sudo, to
no avail. cdrecord always exists because of permissions.

A common approach is to make cdrecord setuid root, in a special group (I
use burners often), then add selected users to the burners group. Trying
to fake the permissions on the device doesn't address other issues like
being able to lock memory and use realtime scheduling.

I confess, on an unloaded system those optimizations are usually not
needed, although on a loaded system they certainly are!

Problem with DVR-107D under OpenBSD

2004-03-20 Thread Edouard Alligand
Hi all,

I am trying for two days to burn an image to my brand new DVR-107D. I
tested the drive under Windows XP SP1 : it works fine with several
different media, so it's not a hardware problem.

My problem is, that under OpenBSD 3.4 with the latest dvrtools I can
format media but not burn images.

When I try to burn I get the following error :

Some bugs in OpenBSD's atapiscsi were fixed during 3.4-current. They
will appear in 3.5, which should be out in a month or so. Could you
try an OpenBSD snapshot to see if there is any difference?
