setenv CDR_SECURITY 8:d ...
mkisofs -dvd-video -f -V $1 $2 | cdrecord-prodvd -v dev=ATAPI:0,0,0 fs=64m speed=1 -eject -dao tsize={$SIZE}s -

(I am running kernel 2.6.5-mm6)

What should I do to use the DVD+R and become a maximum DVD video
compatibility?

The same command as above

Note that with dev=ATAPI: you will never get DMA and writing is s slow.

I thought that had been fixed, I would swear that cdrecord uses DMA with
ATAPI and 2.6 kernels. Now I have to go back and check, I replaced the
CD-R drive with an unsupported DVD unit which doesn't work with anything.

Any time I attempt to reach it through a web browser, using squid as
a proxy, I can't do it. Apparently it doesn't like squid's anonymous
logins, or default password, or something. But then it works fine if
I use a normal FTP client. In fact, it's working right now.

Many people have problems because their sysadmin did set up a broken
firewall. Doing FTP correctly is not trivial.

Agreed, although the iptables in Linux 2.4 does a quite good job.
However, for people who are using real ftp instead of ftp from some
browser, if you set the passive (command PASS) mode so you use the same
socket for data and commands, many firewalls will behave better.

Haven't had a problem on Joerg's site, so I can't say I've tried that, I
just click his link like everyone else ;-)

Setting booktype on NEC 2500A

2004-04-22 Thread Dave Cinege
Andy,

I just swaped out my problematic Optorite 203 for an NEC 2500A.
Very happy with the drive thus far. I intend to upgrade the drive to
some third party firmware that removes the video read limit and more
importantly adds bitsetting. (Very important to me since I can't read +R/W
media in my panasonic laptop drive)

See:
http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=24692
http://www.herrie.org/

How should I go about trying to add support for the NEC 2500A to
dvd+rw-booktype?

Since quite a few 'unofficial' firmwares are becoming available
that support bitsetting, the better question might be how can we add
more generic support to dvd+rw-booktype?

Dave
