thanks for answering, but it seemed it is quite difficult to know if a
RAID is a Fake or a real HW RAID,
my server (ie S5000PAL) is using 1068 or 1064E RAID chipset to allow
using RAID, I don't realy know
if it is either a good SW or HW RAID but my boss doesn't want me to use
Linux RAID instead of the SW RAID
provided by the system itself

Your boss unfortunately doesn't understand Linux well enough to
have come to that decision. When he writes the driver for you he
can then use it the way he hopes:)

[CentOS] question on sendmail.mc file

2010-05-04 Thread Jerry Geis
I tried to set in sendmail.mc file at the LAST line
define(`LUSER_RELAY', `local:unknownuser') dnl
I did service sendmail restart and got an error on a completely
different line.
-
as a thought I deleted that line and put it on line 2 of the sendmail.mc
file.
re-ran service sendmail restart and now it worked. I changed nothing else.

Is there something special about the placement of this command???

I don't know about all the specific details, but 'defines' have to appear

It seemed that the problem is solved for those who are in the same
position, i'll explain what you should do,
first of all try this : (according to the post :
http://forums.citrix.com/message.jspa?messageID=1400884)

(1)Download that driver :
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3117&DwnldID=18570&lang=fra
from the intel support web site

(2) install XenServer on the server you want to use with Raid disabled

(3) Install DDK machine domU on the XenServer

(4) copy the driver ESRT2 on the domU DDK using scp

(5) extract ESRT2 drivers

(6) use the following command : "make -C /usr/src/kernels/KERNEL_VERSION
M=SOURCE_PATH"

where KERNEL_VERSION is the name of the xen kernel (use uname -r), and
SOURCE_PATH is the path to your Makefile directory (ie if you extract
the driver on /root, the path is :
/root/ESRT2__Linux_v.13.13.1021.2009/shim/library/rhel5-32) it seemed
that rhel5-64 doesn't work according to the same topic named before

(7) scp the containt of rhel5-32 directory (zip or tar it before)

(8) extract it onto a usb key

(9) Enable the RAID onto the XenServer, launch the install of XenServer
on the the RAID

(10) during the install, before adding driver use alt+f2 create a
directory : mkdir /mnt , mount the usb pendrive "mount -t vfat /dev/sda1
/mnt"

(11) copy it on : /lib/modules/KERNEL_VERSION/kernel/drivers/scsi/
where KERNEL_VERSION is the name of the xen kernel (use uname -r)

(12) use insmod
/lib/modules/KERNEL_VERSION/kernel/drivers/scsi/megasr.ko (it can take
about 2-3 minutes so be patient)

(13) use alt+f1 to return to the installation, try to load the driver
using XenServer loadmodule

thanks for your help :)

You do not look for updates on 5.4, but for updates on5. And EPEL (as
ATRPMS) tags along with RHEL - so you have to be looking out for

I have a pair of 1064's in a server at home and I can confirm they are
true hardware RAID. They only support RAID 0, 1, or 10 at most though.

And your point is? I mean, a) we're talking about CentOS yum update, and

You are using a repo that tracks RHEL when you're using CentOS. The
only problem, here, is that CentOS is behind the curve.

Either use a repo that tracks CentOS or wait until CentOS releases 5.5.

My recommendation: don't have the other repositories enabled by default
so your "yum update" only updates core components, and then you can
check against the 3rd party repos at with with the --enablerepo option.

mark,

from your post here

http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2010-May/093953.html

i infer that the package in question comes from EPEL. is that correct? (if
so, i suggest that you make use of EPEL support resources:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL/FAQ#Where_can_I_find_help_or_report_issues.3F).

i don't know how the EPEL maintainers are handling the interval between RHEL
5.5 and CentOS 5.5; however, if they have moved their buildhosts to RHEL 5.5,
and they are rebuilding packages for RHEL 5.5, that would explain the behavior
you are seeing. the discussion here seems potentially relevant:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/epel-devel-list/2010-April/msg8.html and
also this BZ entry: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=563985

did you google before posting to the list?

my latest information from Dag is that RPMforge is not planning to upgrade
buildhosts to 5.5 until CentOS 5.5 is out. RPMforge currently provides a
memcached-1.4.5 package that will run on CentOS 5.4, and will also run on RHEL
5.5 with the compat-libevent-11a package (also from RPMforge).

Nope. And this isn't something I have control over - this is at work, this
is the way it's been set up for years, and they're not going to change it.
In fact, adding the EPEL repo is part of the instructions on our wiki on
setting up a new system.

That seems reasonable to me. To rephrase, if I'm upgrading a CentOS 5.4
system, and there's no CentOS 5.5, I don't see why yum should find a 5.5
package.

*shrug*
If I were a repo maintainer, I would not allow this. I can't see, say, Red
Hat showing a 5.6 package if only 5.5 was out.

I'm using RAID 10 and for my install RAID is detected, but once I reboot
(after the install) the system cannot boot on the OS
it seems that I had to use mkinitrd but I don't know how to use it.
During installation everything is fine and just before reboot, I got to
type some shell command to "tell" the system that he had to use the raid
driver at reboot (there is also a problem that I use an USB key to
instert the driver and it is viewed as /dev/sda then the system detect
the Raid disk and called it /dev/sdb), maybe I had to do something with
that before rebooting with a fresh install of XenServer

You should have started your installation with "linux dd" and the initrd would
have been automatically created for you... (if xenserver works as CentOS-5)

http://downloadmirror.intel.com/18570/eng/ESRT2_RHEL4-5_SLES9-10-11_ver.13.13.1021.2009_Readme.txt

3.1.3 Installing RHEL5 (with or without Update 1, Update 2, Update 3, Update 4)
on RAID
-

In order to support XEN mode, the system needs to have its Virtualization
feature enabled in BIOS as a first step, and XEN software package in the OS
needs to be loaded during installation.

1) Create a RAID array using the Intel(R) Embedded Server RAID Technology II
RAID BIOS Console.
2) Connect USB floppy drive and insert the floppy disk with RAID driver
3) Boot your system using RHEL5.0 DVD
4) At boot prompt type "linux dd noprobe=ata1 noprobe=ata2 noprobe=ata3
noprobe=ata4"
5) And then you'll see a page that shows "loading usb-storage driver", and then
it will ask you "Do you have a driver disk". Choose "Yes"
6) Then it will ask you which one do you choose as a driver disk, choose "sda"
which is the USB floppy disk. And then click OK to continue, you'll see the
message "Reading driver disk", after it finishes, it will ask "Do you wish to
load any more driver disks?" choose No if you do not have any more driver to
load.
7) (If XEN mode feature is needed, the OS installatng KEY is necessary and then
XEN software package needs to be loaded) Then continue with the RHEL automatic
installation, you can see that in the page where we select drives to use for
installation, you can only see 1 disk (Intel MegaSR), this means the raid is
recognized.
8) At the last step of the installation (after all the packages are installed)
RHEL5 prompts you to reboot. Do not click reboot button. Press Ctr+Alt+F2 to go
to the text console prompt.
9) type "cat /proc/partitions" you will see some info about the partition. For
example, you might find several rows, one row might include sdb. You might find
like this

major minor #blocks name
8 16 1440sdb

10) type "mknod /dev/sdb b 8 16" (8 and 16 are copied from the major and minor
numbers in step #9, so that the numbers could change according to what is seen
in step #9)
11) type "mkdir /temp"
12) type "mount /dev/sdb /temp"
13) type "ls /temp" and you can find all the driver files are now in /temp
14) Use cd command to enter /temp directory
15) type "./replace_ahci.sh" to execute the script. It will remove ahci from
/etc/modprobe.conf and blacklist ahci in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
(replace_ahci.sh is also an example, and please implement the script even if
the *.sh is with other name).
16) Go back to graphic screen and reboot the system in order to finish the
installation.

You're missing the point.

epel is a repo intended for RHEL, and by a happy coincidence you can use
their repo for Centos too.

RHEL 5.5 is out, so epel provides updates for it.

Try this:

If using mock version older than 0.8.8 or on a system with python 2.4,
and building i386 packages on x86_64, prepend setarch i386 to the mock
command line:
setarch i386 mock -r --rebuild package-1.2-3.src.rpm [1]

If I were you I would not depend on using mock. I have had erronious
things hapen with builds at different times. I still resort to the old

I've suddenly realised that it is almost certainly not that problem at all.
The problem, I think, is that /etc/exports still has the nfs(3) exports. I
understand that I could remove them using the -F and -U flags with chgnfsexp,
but that would make them unavailable to my older systems.

I think it means that I have to concentrate on getting the older systems using
nfs4 as well, after which I can remove the old exports.

Can try vim -n (won't create swap file.)

[CentOS] dhclient.conf being ignored!

2010-05-04 Thread Todd Denniston
It seems that the prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor has decided
that dhclient.conf
should be ignored, i.e. ifup-eth causes dhclient to be called with "-cf
/etc/dhclient-$(DEVICE).conf", and then ifup-eth/ifdown-eth wipes the file out
each time.

Through the use of "DHCP_HOSTNAME" in ifcfg-eth0 you can specify a host name,
but because of the
above behavior of ifup-eth other options don't seem to be able to be passed to
dhclient.

I tried placing
supersede ntp-servers
into dhclient-up-hooks, but that also seems to be ignored, and my google fu
seems to be failing on
how to build dhclient-enter-hooks for the purpose (if that would even help).

anyone got better suggestions than:
a) mod /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth to build
/etc/dhclient-$(DEVICE).conf combining the
options I want.
b) brute forcing things with `chattr +i /etc/ntp.conf`

Automounter maps? I guess they'd need a bit of intelligence

[CentOS] heartbeat package in extras trouble with 5.4

2010-05-04 Thread Baird, Josh
I just recently upgraded a box from i386 5.3 -> 5.4. The box has heartbeat
packages installed from "extras:"
heartbeat-pils-2.1.3-3.el5.centos
heartbeat-stonith-2.1.3-3.el5.centos
heartbeat-devel-2.1.3-3.el5.centos
heartbeat-2.1.3-3.el5.centos
The heartbeat daemon no longer starts.. the init script reports a success, as
well as the logs:
May 4 22:33:10 fc-fmcln02 heartbeat: [9344]: info: Enabling logging daemon
May 4 22:33:10 fc-fmcln02 heartbeat: [9344]: info: logfile and debug file are
those specified in logd config file (default /etc/logd.cf)
May 4 22:33:10 fc-fmcln02 heartbeat: [9344]: info: Version 2 support: false
May 4 22:33:10 fc-fmcln02 heartbeat: [9344]: WARN: logd is enabled but
logfile/debugfile is still configured in ha.cf
May 4 22:33:10 fc-fmcln02 heartbeat: [9344]: info: **
May 4 22:33:10 fc-fmcln02 heartbeat: [9344]: info: Configuration validated.
Starting heartbeat 2.1.3
May 4 22:33:10 fc-fmcln02 heartbeat: [9345]: info: heartbeat: version 2.1.3
May 4 22:33:11 fc-fmcln02 heartbeat: [9345]: info: Heartbeat generation:
1208455492
However, the daemons never actually start. When I run the daemon interactively
without the init script,
the following error appears:
heartbeat[8818]: 2010/05/04_22:23:37 ERROR: Cannot shmget for process status:
Invalid argument
This may suggest that some libs on the system may have been upgraded and
heartbeat is trying to use
the old ones?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get heartbeat working again?
Thanks,
Josh

Re: [CentOS] question on sendmail.mc file

2010-05-04 Thread Jobst Schmalenbach

Using a trap-all user may seem like a good method to prevent spammers from
determining what user accounts are on a system, but will also trap legitimate
mail sent to an incorrect address (e.g. via a typo on the username). I would
only user a trap-all on an entire domain dedicated to the purpose.

I have always found that there are better methods to decrease spamming (e.g.
grey listing, greet pause, mimedefang).

However, if you really need to you coud try

  define(`LUSER_RELAY',`local:someu...@your.domain')

Remember too, that user MUST exist!

Running heartbeat on Centos 5.4 here without a problem. Just powered up
my test cluster and made sure system was up-to-date using yum. Heartbeat
started without a problem.

Perhaps you have selinux enabled on the system? Can you try disabling
selinux?

This may sound like a half-hearted attempt to 'repair' the issue, but
try backing up your authkeys, ha.cf and haresources on each host and try
removing and reinstalling the packages. At this point you have nothing
to lose since the daemons will not start.

Looks like brief is still available, as a rewrite for Windows as a

Until now I have only seen the kernel causing problems (with kmdl
support), and I have become very careful to always support the latest
centos kernels (as well as centosplus kernels).

Are there any other know issues with ATrpms and too early package
support for the upcoming centos release?
