 Replying to myself: the very same config works OK when using the onboard

 Is it a known bug / feature that add-on ports are not transferred to DomU ?

Are you sure your expansion board is based on the classical UART
(8250 or 16550) ? Many add-on cards require specific modules.

This will not work on dom0 if the serial port is already shared, but
you can try it when no domU is running :

$ for x in 0 1 2 3 4 ; do setserial /dev/ttyS$x ; done
/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
/dev/ttyS1, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02f8, IRQ: 3
/dev/ttyS2, UART: unknown, Port: 0x03e8, IRQ: 4
/dev/ttyS3, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02e8, IRQ: 3
/dev/ttyS4: No such file or directory
# (this machine has only one physical port)

My 2 cents,

 Let's say I am 99% sure. It behaves exactly as a 16550, is listed in
 dmesg as
  :03:05.0: ttyS0 at I/O 0xec00 (irq = 21) is a 16550A
  :03:05.0: ttyS1 at I/O 0xe880 (irq = 21) is a 16550A
   and it works perfectly from Dom0. The only problem I face is
 transferring it to DomU.

  This will not work on dom0 if the serial port is already shared, but

  /dev/ttyS3, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02e8, IRQ: 3
  /dev/ttyS4: No such file or directory
 I did not mention in the first message, but both serial interfaces from
 the card are perfectly usable from Dom0, from a standard kernel and from
 Windows ( the computer was previously used to monitor some industrial
 equipments, without adding any special drivers).

 /dev/ttyS4: No such file or directory

  What I am not 100% sure is that we correctly blacklist all the
 modules related to serial interfaces in Dom0. But OTOH exactly the same
 config ( modulo ports / irq ) works with the onboard interface.

Yes, quite surprising ...

And when you start the domU, is there any ttyS available for the dom0 ?
In this case, with ttyS0 in use by a domU, I have on dom0 :
$ for x in 0 1 2 3 4 ; do setserial /dev/ttyS$x ; done
Cannot get serial info: Invalid argument
/dev/ttyS1: No such device or address
/dev/ttyS2: No such device or address
/dev/ttyS3: No such device or address
/dev/ttyS4: No such file or directory

And in domU :
$ for x in 0 1 2 3 4 ; do setserial /dev/ttyS$x ; done
/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
/dev/ttyS1, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02f8, IRQ: 3
/dev/ttyS2, UART: unknown, Port: 0x03e8, IRQ: 4
/dev/ttyS3, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02e8, IRQ: 3
/dev/ttyS4: No such file or directory

One more thing to check : in your initial post, the serial port was on
IRQ 11, now setserial see them on IRQ 21. When the domU is in use, the
IRQ must be free in dom0 (you have shown the /proc/interrupts of domU,
but not the one from dom0). Maybe irq = [11, 21] can help ?

Good luck, or week-end at least,

Gracias

[CentOS-es] lvs y cisco

2010-08-06 Thread ces can

Buenas noches,

[CentOS] yum-fastestmirror inconsistent exclude behavior

2010-08-06 Thread Matt Arnilo S. Baluyos (Mailing Lists)
Hi guys,

I'm trying to figure out something wherein excluded repositories for
the yum-fastestmirror plugin are still being used by the system.

To illustrate:

[r...@sales ~]# cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf
[main]
enabled=1
verbose=0
socket_timeout=3
hostfilepath=/var/cache/yum/timedhosts.txt
maxhostfileage=10
maxthreads=15
#exclude=.gov, facebook
exclude=maulvi, .gov.ph, .vn

(Note the name of mirrors that I am trying to exclude)

However, when I run yum, this is what I get:

[r...@sales ~]# yum update
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Excluding mirror: mirror.pscigrid.gov.ph
Excluding mirror: mirror.viethosting.vn
 * addons: centos.maulvi.net
Excluding mirror: mirror.pscigrid.gov.ph
Excluding mirror: mirror.viethosting.vn
 * base: centos.maulvi.net
Excluding mirror: mirror.pscigrid.gov.ph
Excluding mirror: mirror.viethosting.vn
 * extras: centos.maulvi.net
 * rpmforge: fr2.rpmfind.net
Excluding mirror: centos.maulvi.net
 * updates: mirror.viethosting.vn
Setting up Update Process
No Packages marked for Update
[r...@sales ~]#

If you notice, centos.maulvi.net is still being used despite me
putting it on the exclude list of the fastestmirror config. Also, the
behavior does not seem to be consistent as on another repo (updates),
the previously excluded mirror.viethosting.vn is used.

Any pointers on what I could be doing wrong? or is this a bug?

Thanks!

Regards,
Matt

Thanks, Simon, it appears so:

The actual example shipped in the config file for fastestmirror does use

Its definitely worth investigating as to whats going on.

 [r...@sales ~]# cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf

 #exclude=.gov, facebook
 exclude=maulvi, .gov.ph, .vn

Out of curiosity,
is there a way (with out editing code) to get each of the lists of mirrors
(which were sent to the
yum client) printed before the exclude starts taking place?

i.e., for fun (in the US) I tried
exclude=.net, .com, .edu

which does show long lists of excluded items, yet a mirror for each of the
repos was found, and yes
each of the repos found should have been in the exclude list.

A guess (as I am not familiar with reading python) is that when the number of
repositories available
after exclusions reaches 0, the first [0 index] mirror passed to you is used
anyway instead of
reporting no mirrors available and exiting.
see fastestmirror.py lines 194-216.

[hoping my reading is not too far off :]

If you ran the following from bash:

✈dcl:~$ xhost + localhost
localhost being added to access control list
✈dcl:~$ ssh -X u...@ip.address

There should be a file in your dcl home directory, called
.bash_history . Each command you type at the bash prompt
