[CentOS] rpc.statd: gethostbyname error for ...
Hi, Lately, the system log on my CentOS 5 box, with all the latest updates, have started filling up with messages of the form: Jan 24 09:47:26 i58524 rpc.statd[3452]: gethostbyname error for i58524 Jan 24 09:47:26 i58524 rpc.statd[3452]: STAT_FAIL to i58524 for SM_MON of 10.30.39.59 Jan 24 09:47:26 i58524 kernel: lockd: cannot monitor 10.30.39.59 It does not seem like there is really anything wrong with the hosts setup, though - the gethostbyname call in question works appears just fine in other programs. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on? Hi Dotan, Le 23/01/2012 17:49, Dotan Cohen a écrit : Thanks, all. I suppose that you all are right, considering that 5.2 is no longer supported. I was under the impression that this is an older but up-to-date install. This server sits in a datacenter hundreds or thousands of kilometers from anyone related to it, so I will back it all up via rsync. Do I risk my home Debian or Fedora boxes by downloading the server's files to them? Of course I won't deliberately execute any files that I download, and I won't be root, but I'd like to know if I need to take any extra precautions. Are you really sure it is CentOS 5.2 ? I am very surprised of that, as any 'yum update' would have update to 5.7. And for a public web server, I am surprised that no update at all have been done. Could you send to us the result of : # cat /etc/redhat-release For example, it is what I get from a new installed machine (CentOS 6) : $ cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 6.2 (Final) There could be other reasons why a machine becomes irresponsive (sleeping states for example)... [CentOS] sshd: listen on ip1:port1 and ip2:port2
Hello, with CentOS 6.2 - is it possible to configure OpenSSH daemon to listen on different IPs _and_ ports? I have received a 2nd IP address for my server and have successfully configured by adding the new /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1 file. I'd like SSHd to keep listening at the_old_ip:22 but also at the_new_ip:443. The 443 on the_old_ip is already taken by Apache, so I can't just write Port 22 + Port 443 to sshd_config. Hi Eero, How about using iptables to forward 443 to 22? I think it is the simplest way to do this hack. no, the simplest way is to tell sshd on which port to listen on each interface. Which is extremely straightforward. Redirecting ports to other ports IMHO is neither particularly simple nor maintenance-friendly ... don't do it unless there really is no other way, or the next guy who has to figure out in a hurry what the system does will really, really hate you ... :-) Best regards, Peter. ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos

[CentOS] Question on sys v migrating to upstart
Hi I presently have a line in /etc/inittab (for 5.X based systems) like: v1:2345:respawn:/home/silentm/bin/myfile which runs for any runlevel in 2345. I am looking at migrating that to the new upstart stuff. I can create a file in in /etc/init called myfile.conf and in there have: # /etc/init/myfile.conf start on startup This seems ok... However - my question is how do I stop they myfile and restart it. In the past I would comment out the entry in /etc/initttab and do init q. then put on the new version lets say... then uncomment the /etc/inittab entry and do another init q. How do I do that in the new upstart ? Thanks, Jerry ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos

Well I took your advice and used the fc15 spec file after ripping out the systemd junk, and rsyslog 5.8.7 seems to be working ok on my centos 6.2 box. It would be really nice to have a real centos 6.x version of rsyslog-5.8.7 though. -- Stephen Clark *NetWolves* Director of Technology Phone: 813-579-3200 Fax: 813-882-0209 Email: steve.cl...@netwolves.com http://www.netwolves.com ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
[CentOS] bugzilla + centos 5.7 + yaml errors
Hi all, Struggling with installing ol Bugzy 4.0.3 onto Centos 5.7. When I run the checksetup.pl script included with Bugzilla, I get the message; /usr/bin/perl install-module.pl Email::MIME So I run this from the command line and get YAML errors; Checking for YAML (any) not found I had installed YAML via; yum install *YAML* The package perl-YAML-0.72-1.el5.rf.noarch is on my system. Any advice on how I can get past this bloody YAML issue? - aurf ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos

So doing a clean install of 4.0.3 fails but patch from 4.0 to 4.0.3 works. - aurf ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
