Except the network load, I think you'll just have the same issues you
basically encounter with NFS.
But, may be if you feed with actual problems...

For curiosity: What's the use case of having 400 NFS mounts? Are you
using TCP? UDP?

You need to know what kind of VPN you're dealing with: OpenVPN? IPSec?

My personal opinion is you should change you distribution if you want
"bleeding edge" sofwtares.
CentOS seems not fit this game.

[CentOS] vpn client setup/plugin

2013-11-18 Thread Wes James
I'm trying to find the correct vpn plugin so I can vpn in to a server. The
server requirements are vpn server, username/password and shared secret.
I've installed a few vpn plugins, but I haven't found the correct one that
has the shared secret option. Anyone know which one it is? I've tried a
few from the Add/Remove Software application.

Thanks,

After a brief effort, I didn't get it to work.

I downloaded the emacs-24.2 SRPM from Fedora 19. Trying to compile it
with rpmbuild gave me several errors about missing dependencies. I was
able to install nearly all of the ones complained about from the CentOS
repositories. The only one left was liblockfile-devel, so I downloaded
the liblockfile SRPM and compiled and installed it and its -devel
without error.

So I again attempted to compile the emacs-24.2 SRPM, but apparently the
version of autoconf (2.63) in CentOS was too low (the emacs SRPM
expected 2.69), which caused the build to fail.

If anyone's curious, I have placed a log of the build at
http://www.wistly.net/emacs-build.log

When I was searching for something simillar, I red that syslog-ng plays
well with https://code.google.com/p/enterprise-log-search-and-archive/ .
They have how-tos and configs there specifically for that.

There is also Elasticsearch. Greylog2.

There are also more simple GUIs, but I doubt they will do great when
searching through gigabytes of data.

If you try these, please share your experiences, in using/configuring
them campared to Splunk.

Well, I dislike gnome anyway - at work, we've got a lot of folks on kde.
At home, I use IceWM. But what is this "open a directory"? Is that like
rxvt, click into the xterm, ls ...dir/subdir/subsubdir?

Same effect as double-clicking.
Fortunately, the open-in-browser preference does what I want.

There was some fixes used for udev that allowed labeling to run faster if the

important with all of the improvements to labeling algorithms over the years.

This covers all files under /tftpboot/ giving them the label tftpdir_t.
There is a separate entry for the directory:
/tftpboot directory
system_u:object_r:tftpdir_t:s0
As to why the difference I've no idea as looking at other root dirs with

Thank you John and John for the replies.

I was guessing that doing a kernel update on CentOS 5.7 would get me the
most critical patches like 5.10 has but maybe not.

I was going for the kernel update since it could be done with a few RPMs
remotely, fairly safely. I'm not sure if the same can be done with 5.7 to
5.10 or 6.4.

Err. Do not compile packages by hand. IUS repository provides packages for
php53.
